Bukit Chagar is set to be the up-and-coming hotspot for homeowners and investors with the RTS station less than 3 kilometres away. Temporarily halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues, both governments have reaffirmed their commitment to the project, with measures put in place to ensure its timely completion.
Conceived in 2010 and announced in 2011, the RTS link is a 4km cross-border rapid transit system that will connect JB to Singapore and is slated for completion and to begin operations by 2026. That means we’ll have one more option to travel to Singapore, aside from taking the plane, driving through the Causeway, riding the KL to SG bus and taking the KTM from JB to Singapore.
Malaysia’s Prasarana Malaysia and Singapore’s SMRT Corporation were appointed as the operators for the RTS project (check out the Prasarana tender here) and the link will be a standalone Light Rail Transit.
When completed, the RTS link will take about five minutes to go between Johor Bahru’s Bukit Chagar RTS station and Singapore’s Woodlands North station. Hoping to ease the traffic congestion on the Johor-Singapore Causeway, the RTS Johor project is estimated to be able to cater to an estimated passenger capacity of 10,000 during peak hours.

The RTS project is also expected to bring an influx of developments for Johor Bahru, namely in Bukit Chagar. With the convenience of having a train from JB to Singapore, it’s also expected to attract more home buyers and investors to purchase houses in the Bukit Chagar area, local and international alike.
