Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, 4 March – Sunway today launched the RM18 million Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJK (C) Cheah Fah, the first-ever Chinese national-type primary school within the sustainable integrated township of Sunway City Iskandar Puteri (SCIP) in Johor which will be able to accommodate up to 2,000 students.

Named after Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah’s late father, SJK (C) Cheah Fah is the first new Chinese school to be built in Johor in the past 20 years, as well as one of the five Chinese primary schools that were approved by the Ministry of Education in 2017.

The launch was officiated by Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah AO, in the presence of Deputy Minister of Education Dato’ Dr. Mah Hang Soon and SJK (C) Cheah Fah Building Committee Chairman Dato’ Steve Chong Yoon On.

“The development of this school started five years ago, with an initial commitment of RM18 million from Sunway,” said Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, Sunway Group founder and chairman as well as founder and trustee of Jeffrey Cheah Foundation.

“Making quality education affordable and accessible is a key pillar of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation’s commitment to nation-building. We are dedicated to building a more progressive, inclusive and sustainable future for all Malaysians,” Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah added.

Sunway SJK (C) Cheah Fah is one of Sunway’s eight adopted schools nationwide under the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, Malaysia’s largest education-focused social enterprise. The Foundation and Sunway have donated more than RM40 million to the development and enhancement of various public schools nationwide. The Foundation also awarded more than RM570 million in scholarships and grants to deserving students to date.

SJK (C) Cheah Fah that spans across five acres of land comprises two academic blocks, one administration block, one canteen block and a multi-purpose hall. This elite school also has a total of 24 classrooms with learning amenities and facilities such as science labs, a computer lab, arts room, life skills workshop, football field indoor badminton and basketball courts, making it a conducive learning space in SCIP for young children.

Following its commencement in April 2022, the school is expected to welcome approximately 960 students who are residing in Iskandar Puteri and Gelang Patah. The school will be able to accommodate up to 1,000 students upon commencement, and will have the capacity for an additional 1,000 students in the years to come.
SJK (C) Cheah Fah is designed to deliver a safe and healthy environment that not only enhances the quality of learning, but also assures parents the safety of their children. The school area is also guarded by a dedicated volunteer police team 24hours daily to ensure the safety of the community.

With 40% land reserve as green spaces, SJK (C) Cheah Fah is located strategically in the township as the school is surrounded by well-known local and international educational institutions and colleges. With Sunway Iskandar International School just around the corner, possible collaborations between both schools will be initiated to provide more holistic learning opportunities among the students.

Sunway City Iskandar Puteri Chief Executive Officer Gerard Soosay shared that the opening of SJK (C) Cheah Fah will benefit families residing in the surrounding township, where their children will have ample opportunities as well as accessibility to quality education that they desire within the integrated township, at the same time contributing to a sustainable future.

“Education has always been at the core of all that we build in our townships nationwide. We at Sunway City Iskandar Puteri are committed to providing quality offerings to our residents in every aspect of their lives, one of them being proper education from preschool to higher education,” Gerard added.
