Team Setia came together to distribute traditional Malaysian snacks to volunteers at Setia’s PPV centres.

17 NOVEMBER,  SETIA ALAM – In conjunction with Merdeka and Malaysia Day, S P Setia Berhad initiated the #Setia4Malaysia campaign to uplift the Malaysian spirit and spread good cheer especially during the pandemic.

In line with S P Setia’s sustainability journey, the #Setia4Malaysia campaign encompasses four key initiatives centred on corporate social responsibility to highlight the importance of kindness, support the communities in need and engage Team Setia at home.

Gratitude towards PPV frontliners and volunteers

Six S P Setia event venues across the nation were appointed as Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPVs), of which four being mega PPVs, to facilitate the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme and help the nation reach herd immunity at a faster rate. This was made possible with the continuous support of dedicated frontliners and volunteers who have sacrificed their time to serve the community.

Team Setia who signed up for Truly Malaysian MasterChef were delivered a specially curated meal kit comprising the required ingredients to their doorstep.

With appreciation towards their efforts, S P Setia Foundation delivered tokens of gratitude to frontliners and volunteers of PPVs in the central region and Penang through the Setia PPV Heroes initiative.

The initiative kicked off in August whereby the Foundation distributed more than 2,300 servings of savoury and sweet Malaysian snacks and desserts to approximately 1,060 frontliners and volunteers of the PPVs in the central region, namely Setia EcoHill Club 360 in Semenyih, Setia Eco Templer Clubhouse in Rawang and Setia City Convention Centre in Setia Alam.

“We are proud to have been a PPV venue provider and helped facilitate the vaccinations at Setia Eco Templer Clubhouse. It was a pleasure for Team Setia as well as other volunteers and frontliners from various organisations to have had the opportunity to serve the nation and make the PPV an overall success,” said Kelly Siew, Manager of Setia Eco Templer Clubhouse.

The Setia PPV Heroes initiative also continued in Penang at the Setia SPICE Arena and Setia SPICE Convention Centre mega PPVs. Snack packs with 4,000 servings of Malaysian sweet and savoury dessert and snacks were distributed to approximately 800 frontliners and volunteers here.

Lending a hand to those in need through this initiative, snack packs were purchased from F&B microenterprises from the B40 community whose source of income were affected by the prolonged lockdown.

Empowering the B40 microenterprises

Further supporting the community in need across the nation, S P Setia Berhad in collaboration with EdgeProp Malaysia initiated a Caring Community Campaign themed ‘Alongside our B40s’. The campaign aims to provide financial support to B40 F&B microenterprises in the Klang Valley and Penang which have been struggling to keep their businesses afloat.

Throughout a 13-day nomination in August, fellow Malaysians have shown their support by nominating more than 130 B40 microenterprises which needed a helping hand. Among them, 25 of the microenterprises were shortlisted. Each of these selected microenterprises will be sponsored RM500 to upgrade their businesses, and S P Setia Berhad will continue to purchase food from the 25 microenterprises to be donated to nearby underprivileged homes for six months.

One of the shortlisted microenterprises is run by Siti Noor Hafizah binti Suhaili in Penang. “I am truly grateful to receive the sponsorship as it has been a tough time for all businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic. With this, I can now upgrade my catering business by purchasing more raw ingredients, materials and kitchen utensils. I also plan to share the support I receive from this sponsorship by preparing meals for the communities in need here,” she shared.

Celebrating unity and health

To promote a healthier and united Malaysia amidst the lockdown and travel restrictions, S P Setia launched its very first virtual #Setia4Malaysia Unity Run on Merdeka Day.

The unity run received overwhelming response and tickets were sold out within the first two weeks. More than 1,500 running enthusiasts from across the nation participated in the national-themed run. From 16 September to 16 October, runners completed an accumulated 5km or 21km run each within the spaces of their neighbourhoods, achieving a total distance of almost 47,000km by the end of the end of the event.

Shining light on the diversity of Malaysian cuisine

Spreading the Merdeka-Malaysia Day cheer and engaging its staff members remotely, S P Setia took the opportunity to engage Team Setia across the nation from home through the Truly Malaysian Masterchef cooking activity. Participants were provided a mystery cooking kit to prepare a well-loved Malaysian dessert using the ingredients and recipes provided.

Approximately 120 staff members participated in the Truly Malaysian Masterchef activity and took up the challenge to make apam kukus, sago gula melaka, coconut candy or tang yuan (glutinous rice balls) with their loved ones at home.
