17 April, MELAKA – The high rental rate of houses in the city area, of up to RM1,000 a month, and RM500 for those located in the outskirts, is burdening the people, especially those in the B40 group.
However, the Krubong People’s Housing Project (PPR) brought relief to them.
A recipient of the PPR house, lorry driver Norazman Halipah, 52, who is also chairman of the Krubong PPR Residents Association, said he considered himself very fortunate to be among the occupants of the PPR houses.
“The cheapest house I was renting before was RM280 a month, while most of my neighbours paid more than RM500 in monthly house rental before.
“Now, we are relieved to be able to stay in our own house at a reasonable price, ” said the army retiree who has three children.
The Krubong PPR, costing RM101 million, involved the construction of 600 units of low cost apartments, which are leased to the occupants for RM200 a month and RM50 in management fee, for up to five years.
The project, on a 5.72 hectare site and completed in November 2016, is equipped with facilities such as surau, child care centre, car park, playground and a multi-purpose hall.
Another occupant of the PPR house, S. Gunasegaran, 42, who is a person with disabilities, said implementation of the project showed the government’s concern for the people’s housing needs, especially the low income earners and the poor,a s well as the disabled.
At Krubong PPR, there are more than 10 units on the ground floor for the convenience of the people with disabilities. I’m grateful to have my own house now, he added.
Housewife Siti Nadia Zakaria, 36, also a resident of Krubong PPR, said she and her family were now able to live in a more comfortable home after eight years of staying in a rented house.
I cannot describe how happy I was when informed by the Melaka Housing Board that my husband’s application for the PPR house was approved, she said.
