Johor Port Bhd gets operatorship for Rapid Project from Petronas

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 — Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation Sdn Bhd (PRPC) has awarded operatorship for the Material Offloading Facility (MOLF) Teluk Ramunia in Pengerang to Johor Port Bhd.

PRPC is a subsidiary under Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) while Johor Port is a member of MMC Corporation Bhd.

In a statement today, Johor Port said the handover and commencement of operations ceremony, recently held at Wharf C1, was the conclusion of a four-year port operatorship contract.

“As the port operator, Johor Port will manage the operations and logistics functions at the MOLF for the Petronas’ Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (Rapid) project in Pengerang.

“We will provide comprehensive services ranging from marine services, manpower, equipment and system to operate and manage the MOLF Teluk Ramunia,” it said.

MOLF Teluk Ramunia consists of four berthing facilities with water depth of 5 metres, which will be utilised to receive an estimated 3 million tonnes of containerised and break bulk cargo.

The cargo will be transported to the Rapid project site via the 15 kilometres heavy haul road.

Rapid is Petronas’ largest green-field downstream undertaking in Malaysia, and along with its six major associated facilities, forms the Pengerang Integrated Complex which is poised for its refinery start-up by early 2019.

The associated facilities are the Pengerang Co-generation Plant,

Re-gasification Terminal 2, Air Separation Unit, Raw Water Supply Project, the Pengerang Deepwater Terminal 2, as well as, Central and Shared Utilities and Facilities.
