There has been a lot of development going on in the southern state of Malaysia. From the building of Iskandar Malaysia to the arrival of the first automated rapid transit (ART) system by Mobilus Sdn Bhd, Johor Bahru is now set to be the fastest-growing cities in Malaysia. The recent announcement of the continuation of the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS Link) has attracted lots of interest from homebuyers and investors alike. 

After a year of hiatus, the RTS project has finally been given the green light to resume construction. Conceived in 2010 and announced in 2011, the RTS link is a 4km cross-border rapid transit system that will connect JB to Singapore and is slated for completion by 2026. That means we’ll have one more option to travel to Singapore, aside from taking the plane, driving through the Causeway, riding the KL to SG bus and taking the KTM from JB to Singapore

Malaysia’s Prasarana Malaysia and Singapore’s SMRT Corporation were appointed as the operators for the RTS project (check out the Prasarana tender here) and the link will be a standalone Light Rail Transit. 

When completed, the RTS link will take about five minutes to go between Johor Bahru’s Bukit Chagar RTS station and Singapore’s Woodlands North station. Hoping to ease the traffic congestion on the Johor–Singapore Causeway, the RTS Johor project is also said to be able to carry as many as 10,000 passengers daily each way.

The RTS project is also expected to bring an influx of developments for Johor Bahru, namely in Bukit Chagar. With the convenience of having a train from JB to Singapore, it’s also expected to attract more home buyers and investors to purchase houses in the Bukit Chagar area, local and international alike.

Here we mapped down the types of properties available in Bukit Chagar for sale within 3km from the RTS Johor station.  

1. TriTower Residence – 250m

This luxury serviced residence consists of two residential towers and Capri by Fraser Hotel Residences. Located just a stone’s throw away from the Bukit Chagar RTS station, you don’t even need to have a car to drive there.
