KUALA LUMPUR, 21 August 2025 – UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or the “Company”) today announced the appointment of Eric Chan as an Independent Non-Executive Director to its Board of Directors, with immediate effect.
Chan brings with him over 25 years of experience across property development, corporate finance, and investment banking. He was a key member of the senior management team at Eastern & Oriental Berhad (“E&O”) for 15 years, where he played a pivotal role in transforming the group into a premier lifestyle property developer.
During his tenure as Deputy Managing Director, E&O’s market capitalisation grew significantly, supported by successful landmark developments such as Dua Residency, Idamansara, and the Seri Tanjung Pinang reclamation project in Penang. He was responsible for managing operations across diverse divisions, including property development, hospitality, F&B and investment.
His career also includes leadership in expanding E&O’s hospitality and lifestyle portfolio, most notably through the enhancement of the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang, the launch of E&O Residences in Kuala Lumpur, and operations of Lone Pine Hotel. He has also spearheaded strategic collaborations with leading regional and international partners, including Khazanah Nasional, Temasek, Sime Darby, and Mitsui Fudosan, underscoring his ability to forge impactful partnerships.
Before his career in real estate, Chan gained valuable experience in corporate finance and investment banking with BNP Paribas and RHB Sakura, as well as with Danaharta, where he contributed to the restructuring of distressed assets during the Asian financial crisis.
Chan is a Chartered Accountant and holds an MBA in International Business from ISG, France, where he graduated as Valedictorian. He continues to invest in lifelong learning, including recent work in blockchain applications at Oxford University and mentoring in AI-driven property valuation.
He was most recently appointed to the Board Development Committee of PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd in June 2025.
