KUALA LUMPUR, 15 July 2025 – UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or “the Company”) announced that its flagship sustainability initiative, SIREH Park in Iskandar Puteri, Johor has been officially recognised by the Malaysian Book of Records (“MBR”) as the Largest Urban Community Green Recreational Park in Malaysia. The recognition was conferred during MBR’s 30th anniversary dinner held recently at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya.
The 343-acre urban park, rehabilitated from a former coconut plantation and secondary forest, demonstrates UEM Sunrise’s long-term approach to sustainable township development. Managed by The Nusajaya Natural Heritage Trust (“TNNHT”), the park was envisioned in 2017 as part of the Company’s commitment to ecological resilience, community wellbeing and environmental education.
SIREH Park, short for Sustainable, Initiatives, Recreation and Education Haven, sits strategically among key UEM Sunrise developments such as Horizon Hills, East Ledang, Nusa Idaman and Gerbang Nusajaya. It has since become a key element in the Iskandar Puteri master plan, contributing to the area’s overall liveability and supporting UEM Sunrise’s broader goal of building townships that balance growth with environmental stewardship.
Over the years, SIREH Park has evolved into a collaborative platform for environmental action. The park’s development and programming are supported by partnerships with residents, academic institutions, NGOs and youth groups. Initiatives include ecological restoration, awareness programmes and habitat monitoring efforts.
Hafizuddin Sulaiman, Officer-in-Charge and Chief Financial Officer of UEM Sunrise, said the recognition reflects the Company’s thoughtful integrated planning approach. “As the master developer, we designed SIREH Park not just as a green space, but as an integral part of a township that supports sustainability, biodiversity and community value.
“This milestone reflects the collective effort of our partners and stakeholders who continue to shape the park as a shared resource for education, recreation and environmental care. As we grow, we welcome more like-minded corporates to join us in advancing meaningful, community-driven environmental stewardship,” he said.
To date, over 10,000 native trees have been planted across the park, including species listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (“IUCN”) Red List of Threatened Species. SIREH Park targets to reach 25,000 trees by 2028 through its “Plant That Tree” programme.
Additionally, wetland systems have been introduced to improve water quality and support local biodiversity. The park now hosts more than 120 plant species and 35 bird species, with ecological monitoring carried out by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and other local research partners.
Nestled in the heart of Iskandar Puteri, SIREH Park is home to scenic lakes, lush botanic gardens and panoramic views. With open spaces for family outings and photography, as well as undulating terrain for hiking, running and cycling, the park offers something for everyone, from casual visitors to avid adventurers.
As UEM Sunrise continues to expand its footprint in southern Johor, SIREH Park stands as a working model of how green infrastructure can enhance liveability and long-term value in modern urban environments.
