Simplify lets you sell your unlimited home broadband for cash

test

Internet demand surges amid COVID-19 lockdown. Working and learning from homes are the new norms. Having access to the Internet is critical throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO) period and Simplify, a Malaysian tech startup that advocates Internet sharing, is letting home broadband users sell their excess Internet capacity to empower more people to stay at home, stay connected and stay productive.

How nice if you could offer as little as 10GB of your unlimited home broadband to waive your monthly Internet bill? Simplify can turn your Wi-Fi into a small business, providing you with extra earning while sharing your under-utilized Internet bandwidth at home to other Simplify users.

Simplify offers RM10 for 1GB Internet usage throughout Malaysia. For instance, if you are subscribing to the RM99 home broadband package, selling just 10GB a month rewards you with RM100, good enough to waive your monthly Internet bill. Anything extra is a bonus!

Selling is Simple

Simplify can turn any existing Wi-Fi into a paid Wi-Fi service. With a simple sign-up process on Simplify’s website, you can create a unique Wi-Fi name and password, set it on your Wi-Fi router and start earning like a little Internet Service Provider. Buyers can connect to your Wi-Fi via Simplify mobile app. Similar to AirBnB, just link your PayPal to your bank account to receive daily payout when buyers connect to use your Wi-Fi service.

A New Gig Economy

Speaking from the legal perspective, is it really ok for us to resell our (paid but unused) Internet bandwidth?

Technically speaking, it’s the same as reselling excess energy back to the grid.” – Yen Pei Tay, Co-founder & CEO of Simplify

Although the network infrastructure belongs to the telecoms, the data subscription, smartphones and Wi-Fi routers used to broadcast Wi-Fi signals, are owned by the subscribers. In addition, Wi-Fi operates on an unlicensed spectrum, which means any one may broadcast a Wi-Fi network without needing a license. Technically speaking, it is the same as reselling excess energy back to the grid.

Simplify operates on a sharing economy model, very much like AirBnB and Grab. The company is on its mission to liberate connectivity, enabling P2P Internet sharing and bringing affordable Internet to everyone.
