Mah Sing’s Team Giving Back to the Community

19 November, KUALA LUMPUR – Leading property developer, Mah Sing Group Berhad (Mah Sing) continues to reinforce its commitment to uplift and enhance the wellbeing of the surrounding community by organising its annual company-wide Corporate Responsibility (CR) initiatives recently.

Mah Sing’s workforce comprising senior management team and its employees, as part of M’Power, the Group’s volunteer platform were involved in various community-based activities at 5 different locations nationwide i.e. Perumahan Awam (PA)Seri Kelantan in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur; Kuala Sungai Buloh River; MS Academy @ Wisma Mah Sing, Kuala Lumpur; Penang National Park @ Teluk Kampi and Desaru Beach, Johor Bahru.

Mah Sing’s Founder and Group Managing Director, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum said, “As a responsible property developer, it is our aim to perform our social duties by giving back to the society through sustainable initiatives that is aimed at enhancing the wellbeing and livelihood of the surrounding community, which is in line with our tagline, ‘Reinvent Spaces. Enhance Life.’ It is imperative to inculcate and foster a culture that champions the spirit of volunteerism. We are proud to have dedicated employees making positive change to the community.”

Journey to enhance lives

Mah Sing’s Senior Management team together with Nippon Paint Malaysia enhancing the PA Seri Kelantan’s Facilities by Painting the Futsal Court and Gotong-Royong activities

Central Region:

Perumahan Awam (PA) Seri Kelantan: A 6-acre social housing initiative by the government, located 4-minutes away from Mah Sing’s recent development in Sentul, M Centura as well as the Group’s second affordable residential development in the area, M Arisa. The PA Seri Kelantan consist of 3 blocks of towers with 17 floors each, totalling some 791 units.

Mah Sing is fully on board to support the government’s National Community Policy – launched in February 2019, which saw corporate companies working collaboratively with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) in efforts to enhance the lives and living environment of PA communities through community-based initiatives.

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum together with Mah Sing’s employees participated in several activities at the PA Sri Kelantan in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur i.e. refurnishing of futsal court, gotong-royong and conducted community based activities for the children of the PA community that are below 12 years old. This initiative was in partnership with Nippon Paint Malaysia as the sponsor for the paints used to enhance the futsal court together with Surprise Ventures as the organising partner. It was also graced with the presence of Member of Parliament Batu, Yang Berbahagia P. Prabakaran.

Sungai Buloh River Cruise: A tourist attraction that operates river cruises around the Sungai Buloh estuary affected by the rubbish and debris flow from downstream Sungai Buloh, which has impacted the community’s source of income. In partnership with Malaysian Nature Society, Mah Sing’s M’Power members conducted various activities to support the river’s recovery process namely river cleaning on the boats by using hooks and nets to rehabilitate the affected area. This in efforts to improve the aesthetic appearances of the jetty to aid the fishing community to attract tourists, allowing a secondary source of income. Approximately 550kg of rubbish were successfully collected from this initiative.

 Rise Against Hunger Meal Packaging Programme: A volunteer-based initiative that coordinates the assembly-line packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprising rice, soy, vegetables, and 23 essential vitamins and minerals.

In efforts to create greater awareness amongst Malaysians about the basic daily necessities on food and nutrition, Mah Sing’s M’Power members successfully packed approximately 10,000 meals, which is equivalent to 1,670 packets comprising 6 meals for each packet. This programme is an indoor project arranged for the benefit of expectant mothers and employees who are vulnerable to outdoor activities – in line with the Group’s focus to promote inclusivity to all employees.

Contributing to community wellbeing

Mah Sing’s Northern team refining the conditions of Penang National Park’s facilities

Northern Region:

Penang National Park: A gazette park that lies in the northwest of Penang Island spanning across 2,997 acres of land – maintained by the Department of Forestry of Malaysia. In support of preserving one of Malaysia’s heritage, Mah Sing’s M’Power members were given the opportunity to enhance the existing facilities for the ease of convenience of the visitors. Amongst the activities conducted include installation of new information signage’s; refining the conditions of facilities i.e. tables and benches by the beach; landscape enhancements, along with other facilities enhancements initiatives. These activities were carried out to ensure that the 417 flora and 143 fauna species that resides in the park are well preserved, as the Penang National Park is an iconic tourist destination – attracting over 1 million visitors annually.

Giving back to the society

Mah Sing’s Southern team collected approximately 80kg of trash to aid in preserving Desaru Beach, one of Malaysia’s popular tourist destination

Southern Region:

Beach Cleaning @ Desaru Beach: Widely known as a famous tourist destination driven by its strategic location at the east of Johor Bahru, the main city of Johor. Dubbed as one of the best beaches around in Johor, Desaru is glazed with white sandy beaches and is one of the ideal spots for family-oriented activities i.e. Desaru Fruit Farm, Ostrich Wonderland and many more. In the spirit of preserving one of the most popular tourist destination in the country, Mah Sing’s Southern M’Power members spent the day cleaning up the white sandy beaches of Desaru, whereby approximately 80kg of trash were collected.

Mah Sing’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ho Hon Sang said, “We witnessed encouraging participation from our employees nationwide, which is a testament of the dedication and commitment from our employees to perform our social duties for the betterment of the surrounding community. We hope to see this joined effort to continue every year and getting more of our employees to participate in not only the annual company-wide CR programmes but also various other programmes under Mah Sing Foundation.”
