Mah Sing committed to enhance B40 communities lives through National Community Policy

19 February, KUALA LUMPUR  – Mah Sing Group Berhad (Mah Sing) is committed to uplift the lives of the Program Perumahan Rakyat’s (PPR) B40 communities through Mah Sing Foundation (MSF) to support the Ministry of Housing and Local Government’s (KPKT) National Community Policy. The National Community Policy was launched on 17 February 2019 at Padang Awam Puchong Indah, Selangor. The launch was officiated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and witnessed by the KPKT’s Minister, Pn Hajjah Zuraida Kamaruddin.

Mah Sing’s Founder and Group Managing Director, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum attended the launch and received recognition from the Prime Minister for Mah Sing’s support of the National Community Policy and its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme at PPR Enggang, Bandar Kinrara, Puchong. “We are committed to help these communities under the ministry’s National Community Policy as we believe in inventing a sustainable future living that enhances quality of life,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum.

Mah Sing Foundation and PPR Communities

The need for these classes was high as many of the children in the community between the ages of 7 to 12 years old do not have basic literacy and was not able to cope up in school.  Through the extra classes at Pusat Sama-Sama, these children are able to gain basic literacy and help for free.  “We had seen the children improvement in their school exam after they attended the extra classes at Pusat Sama-Sama and Mah Sing is committed to continue to fund this programme in 2019 for the children’s future,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Leong Hoy Kum.

Another programme initiated to help the community of the PPR is the MSF School+ programme in collaboration with MyKasih Foundation.  The MSF School+ programme was roll out at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Batu, Kuala Lumpur in 2018 where most of the students are from the nearby PPR Pekan Batu and PPR Batu Muda. The MSF School+ is a holistic and sustainable programme to improve underserved schools and students’ access to education, health and safety.

One of the MSF School+ programme that was roll out at SK Kampung Batu is an annual student bursary programme which aimed at lifting the burden of underprivileged families in sending their children to school. Through this programme, students are able to purchase food and drinks at the school canteen or books and stationeries at the school bookstore.  This programme has been proven to improve student attendance in school.  Purchases will be done using MyKasih’s cashless technology. “We believe that investment in a better tomorrow can be achieved when every child is provided with the opportunity to thrive and fulfil their potential,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum.  In 2018, Mah Sing Foundation has contributed RM3.5 million to over 40 schools and non-governmental organization which in turn benefited over 18,000 beneficiaries.

Mah Sing Group and the National Community Policy

The National Community Policy in an initiative to improve the lives of PPR (Program Perumahan Rakyat) residents. Formulated by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, one of its main objective is to improve the living environment and to empower the local communities, to encourage the people to involve themselves in community activities.

With the launch of the National Community Policy, KPKT is working with the private sector, including property developers, to upgrade the lives and living environment of PPR communities through CSR activities. Mah Sing and Mah Sing Foundation continues to support the communities of PPR Enggang through an education programme and a food aid programme at SK Kampung Batu, where most of the students are living in PPR Batu Muda and PPR Pekan Batu in Kuala Lumpur in support of the National Community Policy.
