Johor plans to develop second Cyberjaya in Sedenak

JOHOR BAHARU, Feb 8 — Johor plans to develop a global data hub on 20,234 hectares of land in Iskandar Malaysia, making it the country’s second Cyberjaya, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The state government has also identified several sites for other industries in Sedenak and surrounding areas, he said.

“The matter is still at discussion stage. The government plans to officially announce the development in June or July this year.

“We have identified about 50,000 acres (20,234 hectares) of land here, which we will zone as potential areas to be developed into Cyberjaya Johor Baharu,” he told reporters after attending Chinese New Year celebrations at Wisma Tiong Hua here Monday.

He said the project will create many job opportunities especially for knowledge workers and could attract local and foreign investors.

“Several investors have shown interest in the project, and the area could become a centre combining various technologies and industries,” he said.

At the event, which was also attended by Johor Baharu Tiong-Hua Association Datuk Seri Tey Kim Chai, Mohamed Khaled announced a contribution of RM300,000 to the body to fund the development activities of the state’s Chinese community.

He also urged the people in the state to maintain the existing harmony among the various races as a platform to drive economic growth.
