CYBERJAYA, 2 November: Cyberjaya, looks set to lead the way in promoting high-quality workmanship for its development when eight of its main developers sign the pledge on QLASSIC implementation on their projects here last month. QLASSIC, (Quality Assessment System in Construction) is a system or method to measure and evaluate the workmanship quality of a building construction work based on Construction Industry Standard (CIS 7).
QLASSIC enables the quality of workmanship between construction projects to be objectively compared through a scoring system, bridging on the concept of “do things right the first time and every time. By agreeing on QLASSIC implementation the developers prove their commitment to delivering high-quality products to clients and purchasers. Cyberjaya township has a total of 7,000 acres in size with a balance of 1,000 acres yet to be developed.
The group of developers is led by master developer, Setia Haruman Sdn Bhd with Cyberview Sdn Bhd, Emkay Group, Ikhasas Sdn Bhd, MCT Bhd, Paramount Corporation Berhad, Seri Mutiara Development Sdn Bhd and Tujuan Gemilang Sdn Bhd committing to the initiative. The pledge focuses on ensuring compliance of all construction projects to the Construction Industry Standard (CIS 7), support efforts to promote QLASSIC during awareness campaigns and promotional events and increase the adoption rate of QLASSIC towards developing better and more liveable cities.
“This is an excellent development for the construction industry because the pursuit of quality will not just benefit the end-users, but also the developers. QLASSIC can be used to ensure that rectification cost, which can be very costly, is kept at a minimum and the developer’s reputation and credibility will only improve,” said Tan Sri Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin bin Ali, Chairman of CIDB Malaysia at the Pledge Signing Ceremony for QLASSIC Implementation by Developers in Cyberjaya last month.
He added that the construction sector remains one of the most vibrant industries and main economic contributors to the industry. In the first half of 2016, the value of construction projects totalled RM59 billion. Of this, a total 21% or RM12 billion was channeled into residential projects, 22% or RM13 billion for non-residential projects, while 6% or RM4 billion for social amenities projects and 51% or RM30 billion for infrastructure.
The number of QLASSIC high scorers have definitely improved. In 2015, 270 projects were assessed using QLASSIC and 46 projects achieved a score of 80% and more, while 272 projects were assessed in 2014 and only 24 projects achieved a score of 80 and above. “As the Master Developer of Cyberjaya, Setia Haruman is an aspiring builder of cities that shape future communities, with a very simple and straightforward approach.
