Taman Tun Dr. Ismail or better known as TTDI, is without a doubt one of the major neighbourhoods in Klang Valley with a long history and unique qualities. Named after the second deputy prime minister of Malaysia (1970), Tun Dr. Ismail Abdul Rahman, TTDI has emerged as an affluent major township – owing to its strategic location – it’s sitting on the border of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Now, TTDI is touted as one of those cool neighbourhoods that people actually rave about for their bustling business hub, easy public transport access with the newly opened TTDI MRT Station and a plethora of gastronomical choices within. It is not just a place for young hipsters to hang out in, but has a solid community that is suitable for a family to settle down and grow.

1. A quick escape to the nature

Consider yourself lucky if you live in TTDI because it holds one of the nicest parks in Klang Valley. Taman Rimba Kiara would be the go-to place if you would like to take your family out to reconnect with nature and have a fun experience of spotting different bird species that lives in the park. This could be a fun game and a little nature expedition for the young ones while at the same time, break a sweat by walking around a well-tarred path. The place is so popular that it is not uncommon to find locals hiking, biking or exercising around the park. It is easily accessible as it’s a mere 10-minute walk from TTDI MRT Station.

2. Who says family and science don’t go together?

Learn and play by spending the weekend with your family at the National Science Centre in Bukit Kiara, which is less than 10 minutes’ drive away and accessible by public transport from the TTDI MRT Station. The centre is divided into three different sections, such as indoor gallery of which one of its main attractions is Malaysia’s first freshwater fish aquarium, themed exhibits, and outdoor exhibits zone. The ticket can be purchased at the entrance at RM6 for adult and RM3 for children. Dive into the world of science by taking part in the activities and programmes such as ‘science show’ that demonstrates basic science concepts, ‘let’s experiment’ activity for older children to experiment with scientific apparatus and materials, and mind stimulating activities for young children from the age 4 to 6 years old at Kid’s Discovery Place.

3. Explore the world of gastronomy

TTDI has a wide range of gastronomic experiences for all walks of life. Entice your taste buds with a wide range of cuisine found in the neighbourhood – be it local or international, it is all within the cove of the neighbourhood. Therefore, do not miss out on the opportunity to try out famous eateries in TTDI like Dotty’s Pastries and Coffee for yummy instagrammable desserts, Pickle and Fig for a hearty big breakfast plate, and  Little Wonton, to satisfy your dumpling cravings with a variety of interesting filling combinations. The list of famous eateries in TTDI is endless. As the Malaysian saying goes, nothing can bring us together better than the act of having food together.

4. Laugh out loud

If your family members are old and mature enough to appreciate various concepts of art and culture, TTDI has a host of activities, one of them being comedy. There are many public facilities in TTDI, and one of the best things about it is the library. Pustaka KL at TTDI is a public space for everyone to study, wind down and read a book in peace. It is often listed as one of the best libraries in Klang Valley. Having a good and well-maintained library reflects on the community itself and it seems like the TTDI community cherishes a reading culture well enough. Pustaka KL at TTDI is less than 10 minutes drive from the TTDI MRT Station.

TTDI is definitely a lovely place to settle down and raise a family as it has many things to offer and it is also a place that is extremely rich in culture with great amenities.
