Yes, another lockdown is upon us and we can of course hear a collective sigh from everyone – The ongoing FMCO will be conducted in three phases and we can all social activities will be prohibited at least until mid-July 2021. No one likes to be cooped up at home but being at home doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. The trick is to give yourself something exciting and engaging to do.

Besides baking up a storm in the kitchen and trying out fun home workouts, how about hitting up some fantastic free computer games and mobile games during this lockdown? We’ve compiled a quick list below of some games for just about anyone. You, you and your friend and your kids as well, we have everyone sorted. Best of all, they are all free so you don’t even have to spend a dime. So, what are you waiting for?

Just to switch up your gaming diet, why not take a stab at an adventure-style game with one of the genre’s most beloved franchises? The Call of Duty brands needs little introduction. The game and its many versions have been around for close to two decades now. The objective is simple – shoot to kill before you are killed. This mobile version includes the classic FSP (first-person shooter) mode but also includes an insanely fun battle royale mode where 100-players can duke it out ala Fortnite style. If you get roped in and will like to take it to the next level, the game does offer in-app purchases for some additional gear but the game is basically free to play.

If you find typical computer games too fast-paced and bewildering, Idle Big Devil may offer you a reprieve. Idle Big Devil is on its way to becoming one of the best games for PC. In the game, you’re appointed by the king as the lord of killing the Undead and creatures possessed by evil spirits. You do this with help from five heroes whom you recruit throughout the course of the game. You can collect resources when you participate in events and perform daily tasks that reward you with prizes.

Path of Exile

Path of Exile gives you some shades of another popular dungeon crawler Diablo. This game is a slow burner, it takes some time for it to grow on you but boy when you’ve sold, you’re going to find it hard to walk away from! The game is set in a dark fantasy world where you are required to band together with other exiles to negotiate through the treacherous wilderness.

3. Top Free Games for Kids

Peek-A-Zoo

A single screen app with a bunch of cartoon animals? Seems a little basic and boring but don’t let this game fool you. Built for toddlers and pre-schoolers, the game implores your little one to identify the correct cartoon animal based on a simple clue. This could be a name, an action, an emotion, a position or even a sound. There is no chance of your kid skating easy past this one. Look out for the ridiculously cute scenes after you select the right character.

Have dreams of your kid being a future coder or exploring a STEM-related career? Well, you can get them started with this fun game for children aged 5+ years, that mixes foundational coding with a dash of mystery and your friendly neighbourhood girl detective. Kids can even program their own robot puppy to help Nancy Drew solve mysteries. Players can also choose cute disguises and search for clues within 20+ hidden object games. 

The coding difficulty increases as the story progress with new puppy commands introduced in each chapter. Your child will be exposed to basic computer programming structures such as sequences and loops throughout the game.

Fortnite Battle Royale

Battle Royale is an immensely popular game at this point in time. Originally designed as an add-on for Fortnite, the game has taken on a life of its own. The premise is as simple as they come. You are dropped into a map with 99 other players and it’s a free-for-all shoot-em-out. The last one standing at the end wins. The other thing that is cool with Fortnite is its versatility;  you can play it with your friends regardless of which platform they’re on  – PC, Xbox One, iOS, Android or PS4!

Among Us

Ever played the party games ‘Mafia’ or ‘Werewolf’ and remember thinking how much fun they were? Imagine a mobile game version of that but set in space. Among Us, takes place in a space-themed setting where players are divided between Crewmates and Impostors and each group are tasked with eliminating each other. It’s unfortunate that loud and large parties are not allowed during the Covid-19 lockdowns, but nothing is stopping you from having some group fun online!
