When designing the bedroom or master suite of your dreams, you’d do well to include at least one jaw-dropping feature, explains Lana Taylor from Three Birds Renovations.
A neat and tidy fridge will ultimately save you money as there will be a significant drop in food wastage, less double-ups and it can lead to other time-efficient habits such as better meal planning, quick trips to the supermarket and easier meal prep. Here are 10 top hacks to ensure your fridge is organised and clean every time you open the fridge door.
1. Keep like with like
Containerise like items and food inside baskets or use clear containers so you can quickly see what’s inside.
2. Label all compartments
You want each member of your household to know where to find things, and where to return them once finished with. This will help ensure healthier eating habits.
3. Keep raw meats on the bottom shelf
Meat should be kept inside a plastic container to prevent unwanted drips inside the fridge, and as a result unwanted smells. Store these containers on the bottom shelf of the fridge. If your fridge is super smelly, read our article on how to get rid of stale fridge smells with one ingredient.

4. Use the door of the fridge smartly
Store frequently used items that you use most frequently, such as milk, cheese, butter and so on, in the door of the fridge so these items are easily accessible.
5. Use fridge crisper drawers
Consider investing in fridge crisper drawers to keep fresh produce fresher for longer.
6. Line fridge crispers
Use non-slip matting to line fridge crispers and avoid bruising of produce.
7. Store leftovers inside glass containers
Use lids and label with masking tape – and be sure to include the date that you stored the produce on the outside of the glass container.
8. Store condiments in the door of the fridge
If your fridge door does not have enough space, consider using a lazy Susan – these tools are a great way to store condiments and allow you to see everything at a glance.
9. Rotate food regularly
Before any shopping trip to the grocery shops, be sure to move older food that is at the back of the fridge towards the front to ensure you use it sooner and to avoid food wastage.
10. Regularly clean the fridge
Always wipe out your fridge before your weekly food shop to keep it clean. Once a month at least, take everything out and do a deep clean of the fridge.
