KUCHING, Dec 6 – The Sarawak Public Works Department will be taking over upgrading works of the Miri-Marudi road which is currently in bad condition.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the road which was originally a timber route, is hardly passable for light vehicles as it is now muddy and riddled with potholes.
He said the road was earlier upgraded under a project by the Malaysian Armed Forces with allocations from the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.
“However, after receiving so much complaints, efforts are being made to upgrade the road and the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) has been assigned to the task.
“For the time being, JKR Sarawak is still evaluating the cost of construction and I myself am working to obtain allocations from the federal government,” he added.
