UEM Sunrise wins “Highly Commended” award at The Sustainable Business Awards, Malaysia 2020/21

5 OCTOBER, KUALA LUMPUR – UEM Sunrise Berhad (“UEM Sunrise” or the “Company”), one of the top property developers in Malaysia, recently marked another milestone as the Company bagged home the “Highly Commended” Award under the Large Organisation category at the Sustainability Business Awards, Malaysia 2020/21.

This marks the first time UEM Sunrise was awarded this laurel since the Awards’ inception in 2012. This honour further cements the Company’s commitments in its pursuit of sustainable development in line with the key pillars encompassing environmental practices, social responsibility, and corporate governance.

In the presence of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Economic Affairs, Honourable Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamad, UEM Sunrise Chief Executive Officer, Sufian Abdullah is awarded the “Highly Commended” Award under the Large Organisation category at the Sustainability Business Awards, Malaysia 2020/21. The Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) acts as a platform advocating towards a sustainable future, recognising and honouring companies that display consistent efforts in multiple areas of sustainability through a comprehensive assessment process developed by an international team with over 15 years of experience in business-related benchmarking and metrics.

Held through a virtual ceremony last week, UEM Sunrise Chief Executive Officer, Sufian Abdullah expressed his appreciation to Global Initiatives for awarding UEM Sunrise the “Highly Commended” Award under the Large Organisation category at the Sustainability Business Awards, Malaysia 2020/21. This further demonstrates the Company’s commitments to pursue sustainable development in line with key pillars concerning environmental practices, social responsibility, and corporate governance.

UEM Sunrise Chief Executive Officer Sufian Abdullah said that being acknowledged by the SBA reaffirms the Company’s position in its sustainability journey, alongside its recent win at the (MSWG)-ASEAN Corporate Governance Award 2020 that further strengthens the Company’s stance in sustainable development.

“Marshalled by our vision of ‘Building communities of the future, with you and for you’, environmentally-friendly practices and ESG-oriented values have always been our central focus when it comes to making business decisions. We will make continuous strides in ESG efforts which are holistic, measured, and tracked, and robust sustainable practices will soon be more evident in our products which are rooted in non-superfluous designs and modern methods of construction,” he said.

Moving forward, the Company has extensive plans to enhance its offerings of sustainable products in terms of spatial flexibility and cost-efficiency as well as its processes as part of its efforts to deliver a sustainable value chain for its stakeholders and customers. UEM Sunrise expects to continue building momentum towards its mission of achieving a better and sustainable tomorrow.
