Terengganu state government will build 10,000 units of affordable homes soon

KUALA TERENGGANU, March 9— Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman today told the State Assembly that the state government will be building 10,000 units of affordable homes soon.

Currently, he said the state government via the Terengganu Economic Development Corporation (PMINT) was looking for suitable sites for the projects in the state.

“But the projects will be implemented depending on the financial situation of the state government. To date, 16 sites for the projects are being identified including in the Kota Putera constituency and Seri Bandi area in the Kijal constituency,” he said.

He said this when winding up debate on the motion of thanks for the Royal address.

Ahmad Razif said the state government was also partnering 1Malaysia Housing Corporation (PR1MA) to build 2,557 houses in the near future after consultations on the choice of contractors and sites were completed.

Ahmad Razif was replying to questions raised yesterday from Kota Putera assemblyman Mohd Mahadi Musa and Kijal assemblyman, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.

Ahmad yesterday claimed that the state government did not implement a low-cost housing project in Seri Bandi although it was supposed to be implemented in 2014 while Mohd Mahadi also raised the same issue by claiming to date there were no housing projects in the Kota Putera constituency.

On the issue of the repayment of the cost of constructing the East Coast Highway 2 which was also raised by Ahmad, Ahmad Razif, who is also Seberang Takir assemblyman, said in principle the federal government had agreed to repay the cost of the highway amounting to RM1.85 billion.

“However, the repayment method has not been decided. I am pushing the Finance Ministry to pay at least half as it could be used to pay for projects which had been planned including housing schemes in the state,” he said.

Speaker Datuk Mohd Zubir Embong then adjourned the sitting sine die.
