Sustainable development focus of iProperty Conference

KUALA LUMPUR, April 5  — Sustainable development to address Asia’s rapid urban growth will be the focus of the coming conference to be organised by iProperty Group’s network property portals from April 21 to 22, 2016 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

In a statement Tuesday, iProperty Group Chief Executive Officer, Georg Chmiel, said with Asia urbanising rapidly, understanding the importance of sustainable development, as well as acquiring technical expertise around township planning, were increasingly important.

“This iCities conference will give real estate professionals in the region practical case studies and points of view that will help them to best address the immediate challenges, while building sustainable features into planned developments for the longer-term,” he said.

Chmiel said the event will also bring together senior decision-makers from the real estate sector, city planners, engineers and contractors.

The inaugural two-day conference, themed “The iCities: Urban & Township Development for Emerging Markets”, also aims to highlight the importance of sustainable development; ensuring current developments do not burden future generations; township planning, as well as infrastructural and social developments.

The speakers include Nicholas You, Director of Global Programmes and Projects at Guangzhou Institute for Urban Innovation and Honorary Chair and Founder of the UN-Habitat World Urban Campaign; Constant van Aerschot, Executive Director of the Business Council for Sustainable Development, Singapore; as well as Colin Henson, Principal of Henson Consulting, Australia and Former Governor of The Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering, Australia.
