Sunway Property races for a better planet together with its communities in the Southern Region.

Johor Bahru, 2 June 2016 – Sunway Property, the Master Community Developer in partnership with not-for-profit NGOs, EcoKnights and Malaysian Environmental NGOs (MENGO), recently organised the inaugural ‘Race For A Better Planet 2016’ at its Southern region in Sunway Iskandar to mark the globally celebrated World Environment Day.

World Environment Day is a global initiative under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) which aims to create global awareness for the public in taking positive environmental steps to protect Mother Nature. Echoing the global initiative objectives, the ‘Race For A Better Planet’ campaign is committed to raising public awareness on sustainability and the importance of respecting nature in our everyday life.

The ‘Ride With Nature’ event welcomed a crowd of over 400 who were thrilled with the cycling adventure that took place within Sunway Iskandar. Echoing the township’s tagline, Nature’s Capital City, parents and kids enjoyed the specially-designed 20km cycling route featuring beautiful natural elements surrounded by lush greeneries in Sunway Iskandar.

As part of the township developer’s efforts to actively educate its communities in Johor, families from all walks of life were brought together for a good cause through green activities. The community also had the opportunity to learn about sustainability in a light and fun manner. Aside from the cycling expedition, other programmes during the event included the tree planting and fish releasing activity.

“We are pleased to witness these purposeful efforts by many of our communities in taking positive actions to care for Mother Nature. The event also marked another milestone for us as we organise the first-ever ‘Ride With Nature’ event with our communities on a big scale,” said Gerard Soosay, Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Iskandar who was present at the event.

Experiencing the outdoor fish-releasing activity with her children at the lake, Nicole Ang enthused, “This is our first time here and it was definitely a memorable experience. My family and I had a great time exploring the township in a unique way through our bikes. We would like to commend the Sunway team for organising such a smooth and meaningful event.”

The ‘Ride with Nature’ ensues the successful World Environment Day celebration last year that was graced by the US Ambassador to Malaysia, Joseph Y. Yun, and his delegates at Sunway Iskandar during the convoy’s six-day cycling excursion. Further to this, six different types of tropical fruit trees consisting of mangosteen, langsat, mango, kedondong, guava and rambutan were also planted around the Emerald Lake Garden for the benefit of the community at the event last year.

As a Master Community Developer, Sunway is committed to nurturing a sustainable living experience for the communities to live, learn, work and play in an environmentally sound future. The ‘Race For A Better Planet’ initiative is also in line with the ‘Living Sunway, Living Community’ notion to further engage and grow with the communities on the environmental front.

The celebration was also held at Sunway City Ipoh through the ‘Discovery Race’ event and Sunway Valley City through the ‘Hike with Nature’ event with the Northern communities on 28 and 29 May. Interested participants can also look forward to the final ‘Race For A Better Planet’ event at Klang Valley with the ‘Discovery Walk 2.0’ happen this weekend, 4 June at Sunway South Quay, Bandar Sunway.
