KANGAR, April 25— Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) built 35,094 units of 1Malaysia People-Friendly Houses (RMR1M) between 2002 and March 31, this year.

SPNB Mesra Sdn Bhd board member, Asmadi Abu Talib said the number was out of 38,135 units approved while 2,555 were being built and another 486 in the process of agreement documentation.

He said during that period, SPNB Mesra Sdn Bhd had received 81,580 applications but 24,977 which did not meet the set conditions were rejected while 18,468 applications were on the waiting list.

SPNB Mesra Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary company of SPNB which is tasked with building RMR1M units nationwide.

Asmadi said the RMR1M were especially for those earning a monthly income of RM750 to RM3,000 such as farmers, fishermen, and villagers without a house but owning land.

He said SPNB Mesra Sdn Bhd arranged for the bank loans for these houses measuring 1,000 sq ft and priced at RM65,000 per unit.

“The RMR1M applicants are each given a subsidy of RM20,000 and only need to pay back RM45,000, besides enjoying a cut of two per cent on the bank loan interest rate which is borne by the government. They only have to pay RM270 monthly for 25 years,” he said.

With regard to Perlis, Asmadi said 765 units of RMR1M had been completed from the 885 successful applications, out of the 1,954 received.

He said the documents for the construction of another 52 units of RMR1M were handed over by state Islamic Religious Committee chairman Khairi Hasan to 22 contractors at a ceremony in Dewan Melati, here, yesterday.
