Sime Darby Bhd to represent Malaysia at World Conference On Quality & Improvement

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) — Sime Darby Bhd and four other Malaysian organisations will represent Malaysia at the World Conference on Quality and Improvement (WCQI) in Wisconsin, US.

The WCQI, organised by the American Society for Quality (ASQ), will be held from May 16 to 18, 2016.

In a statement today, Malaysia Productivity Corp (MPC) said Sime Darby is one of 36 organisations shortlisted for the prestigious event although there were approximately 140 entries from 30 countries globally.

ASQ’s WCQI is the world’s premier event on quality that features world-class keynote speakers and successes by leading organisations from around the world.

“Also representing Malaysia at the Conference are teams from the Ministry of Education, Khazanah Nasional Bhd and Jabil Penang,” MPC said.

Sime Darby Bhd, will also be participating in the “World Cup” of quality practitioners for the second consecutive year.

“The winning entry by Sime Darby through the Carey Owl Knights team is a project that has the potential to reduce cost and boost revenue for a refinery, Sime Darby Austral, by almost RM60 million a year,” MPC said.

It said Sime Darby Austral has managed to save almost RM30 million in about five months, from Aug 15, 2015 to Dec 31, 2015.

“Since Sime Darby rolled out the Lean Six Sigma Business Management Strategy in 2013 to improve operational efficiency, the group had achieved accumulated savings of more than RM360 million,” it said.

MPC has also named Sime Darby as the ‘Industry Champion on Productivity’ to spearhead productivity initiatives at an industry level.

The recognition of Productivity Champions is an initiative that aims to cultivate and drive productivity among industries.
