3 October 2017, Iskandar Malaysia, Johor: Invest Iskandar Malaysia 2017 Symposium (Invest IM) got off to an exciting start today. Touted as the biggest and most comprehensive investment-related event in the southern economic corridor, the symposium that is organised by Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) is one of the signature events in conjunction with Iskandar Malaysia’s year-long 10th anniversary celebration (IM10).

The symposium features a line-up of high-profile speakers who will share updates on the progress of Iskandar Malaysia, latest Government policies and strategies which can bring more investment opportunities to current and potential investors alike.

Themed ‘Shaping the Future Economy of Iskandar Malaysia’, the symposium is being held at Phoenix Hotel, Forest City, Johor and was officiated by YAB Dato’ Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Menteri Besar of Johor Bahru.

Also present at the Invest IM was YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry. During his Ministerial Keynote Dato’ Sri Mustapa said that global economy is expected to improve in 2017 compared to 2016. He added that the positive development in Japan and China is expected to drive growth in Asia and provide a positive impact on Malaysia which has seen its GDP on an upward trend recording 5.7% for the first half of 2017.

YB Dato’ Sri Mustapa also stated that Iskandar Malaysia remains one of the key beneficiaries of the improving economy especially with all the investor-friendly factors in place along with its positioning as a choice destination for Investment, Work and Living.

Datuk Ismail Ibrahim, Chief Executive of IRDA said “This conference is a platform for the gathering of corporate leaders, policy makers, investors – existing and potential Iskandar Malaysia investors alike, and various professional practitioners from the public and private sectors as well as community leaders and influencers, from Malaysia and overseas.”

As we move closer towards our maturity as an economic corridor in 2025, it is timely to envision the future economy of Iskandar Malaysia. We are willing to learn from foreign and local experts on the new transformative forces which can change the economic landscape and provide great business opportunities and not forgetting the lessons that we can take away from the past years,” he added.

In addition to an investment conference, the Invest IM 2017 Symposium includes conferences on the Green and Digital Economy that will spur the future growth of the region. The event brings together key thoughts leader, capital market players, investors, potential investors, entrepreneurs and top business executives to closely discussed and spur forward thinking investment propositions.
