Selangor Developers Who Fail To Fulfil Requirements To Build Affordable Homes Will Be Barred

SHAH ALAM, 29 March: Developers in Selangor have been warned that they will be barred from developing other housing schemes in the state if they fail to fulfil their requirement to build houses under the Rumah Selangorku programme.

State housing committee chairman Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad (pix) said he was aware that there are a number of developers who have been granted development orders under the Rumah Selangorku development incentive but have failed to start their projects.

“The time given for developers to handover the houses to their owners is three years. What I’m worried about are not the houses that are being built, or have been completed, but those that have not even started work, despite getting approval.

“We are warning all these developers, if you don’t start building Rumah Selangorku, then you will not be able to build any other houses here,” he said at the sate legislative assembly, here, today.

The Rumah Selangorku programme is the state’s affordable housing scheme where developers must build homes ranging between RM42,000 and RM250,000 per unit.

Iskandar was replying to Dr. Xavier Jayakumar (PKR-Seri Andalas) on what the state government plans to do to tackle the issue of only 665 Rumah Selangorku units being completed since 2014, while pointing out there was a huge backlog in the houses built.

Earlier, Iskandar told the assembly that 20,675 units were being built in 24 projects since the Rumah Selangorku was launched but to date, 665 units had been completed.
