S P Setia sets the pace with Malaysia''s first smart bike sharing initiative at Setia Alam

Setia Alam: Leading property developer, S P Setia continues to lead the way in innovative eco initiatives with the introduction of the popular Mobike at Setia Alam and Setia Eco Park in Shah Alam today. First of its kind to be implemented here in Malaysia, Mobike is the world’s largest smart bike sharing platform which has introduced its service to more than 160 cities around the world over the past 15 months.

“Smart bike sharing offers big townships and their residents and visitors many benefits including reduced traffic congestion, decreased pollution and a simple yet cost-effective urban transportation option,” said Datuk Wong Tuck Wai, Deputy President & COO of S P Setia at the launch of the Mobike partnership held at Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC). “Of course, it is also a great way for members of Citizen Setia to stay fit and healthy!” added Datuk Wong.

In line with S P Setia’s development philosophy LiveLearnWorkPlay, Mobike is a fun way to solve the ‘last mile’ connectivity and to improve quality of life in the Setia Alam and Setia Eco Park townships through dock-less bike-sharing. It is also a bike sharing service to fulfill urban short trips conveniently, anytime and anywhere, by combining innovation and today’s IoT (Internet of Things) technology.

“In addition to that, Mobike supports the go green and eco concept of Setia’s townships as it reduces the townships’ carbon footprint and is managed in a very compact space that does not require a large investment but leads to improved convenience for the local community,” chipped in Datuk Wong. A total of 600 Mobikes will be made available at Setia Alam and Setia Eco Park at designated locations. The service is made available at RM1.50 for 30 minutes for users and will be available from 6 th September 2017 onwards

Mobikes are designed with a series of proprietary high-tech features that no other bike-sharing company provides. Every Mobike is equipped with unique smart-lock technology and built-in GPS connected via the Mobike IoT network, which helps locate and monitor the health of each bike to ensure a constant supply and quality experience for users. Additionally, the data it generates can provide invaluable urban transportation insights for cities and local communities, to manage location-based bike demand and inform infrastructure planning.

With the innovative dockless scheme, locals will be able to pick up and ride Mobikes around the city at any time by simply downloading the Mobike app, finding a nearby Mobike and scanning a QR code. To complete their ride, users need only park the bike at any authorised bike parking area near their destination and manually close the lock on the bike.

“We are confident that this initiative with Mobike will instil the love of cycling within the community of Setia Alam and Setia Eco Park. We have plans to adopt this initiative in all our other townships in the near future as part of our continuous effort of enriching the lives of those within our eco-centric communities,” said Datuk Wong.
