Redevelopment plans of dense housing areas are underway

24 November, KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government plans to redevelop densely housing areas which are deemed no longer suitable for current needs.

Its minister, Tan Sri Noh Omar said the redevelopment would involve one room flats.

“A congress will be held in January (2018) to discuss it. Since about 70 percent of the population live in urban areas, the ministry has to plan for the people’s comfort.
“We want to redevelop old housing areas,” he told a press conference after opening the Local Authorities Consultative Committee Meeting 2017 at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here today.

The three-day meeting was attended by the mayors, presidents and chairmen of 117 local authorities and representatives from government agencies nationwide.
Noh said the redevelopment can be modelled on Kerinchi Residensi, the former PKNS Flats in Kerinchi.
