ISKANDAR PUTERI, Nov 24 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is expected to announce the global business services (GBS) as one of the newly-promoted sectors in Iskandar Malaysia. i2M Ventures Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Zulfiqar Zainuddin, said this would be made at the Iskandar Malaysia’s 10th-anniversary celebration next month.
“With GBS, there will be more awareness of the potential of this sector among investors. “In six to nine months down the road, we are expecting an increase in demand and enquiries about GBS in Iskandar Malaysia,” he said after a media familiarisation trip here today.
i2M Ventures Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned unit of Khazanah Nasional Bhd, promotes GBS Iskandar, which is a specialised programme to facilitate businesses to locate GBS operations in Iskandar Malaysia.
Zulfiqar said the company was also working closely with Medini Iskandar and Malaysia Digital Economy Corp to get Iskandar Malaysia as Multimedia Super Corridor status location.
“This is part of our strategy in getting more investments especially from the GBS sector,” he said. Under its mandate, GBS Iskandar aims to generate RM6.5 billion of investment and create 14,000 high-value and knowledge-based jobs by 2020.
After three years, it has already created 2,300 professionals jobs in the business services and shared services outsourcing sectors.
