KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) — Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd (PCG) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) for the implementation of its pilot Turnaround Upskilling Apprenticeship programme.
In a statement Saturday, the company said its turnaround and maintenance plans took into account regulatory requirements, business environment, integration and optimisation to minimise the number of days for a shutdown across the business value chain.
“We at PCG are indeed honoured and proud to partner with CIDB in our effort to develop a workforce and competencies to cater to our plant turnaround and shutdown activities,” said President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Sazali Hamzah.
The MoU was signed by Sazali and CIDB CEO Datuk Seri Prof Dr Judin Abdul Karim.
Sazali said PCG was continuously implementing internal reliability and efficiency enhancement programmes, as well as investing in technical capabilities of its people.
Additionally, he said the company had centralised the turnaround functions and put in place stringent measures to ensure the turnaround activities were executed safely, effectively and on schedule.
This year, PCG successfully executed two turnaround activities with better precision via a centralised turnaround team.
Going forward, the company will focus on reaching the top quartile of world-class operational excellence, as well as health, safety and environment performance at all its 24 plants.
“In doing so, we will need people who are ready to rise to the challenge, while managing the operations of the existing facilities,” added Sazali.
