Penang Regional Development Authority (PERDA) to build 52 affordable housing units in Kuala Sungai Pinang

3 March, BALIK PULAU – The Penang Regional Development Authority (PERDA) will build 52 housing units under the Projek Perumahan Sejahtera Rakyat (PPSR) in Kuala Sungai Pinang here to help the hardcore poor in the area to own a house.

Its general manager Rosman Hashim said the construction of the housing project, costing RM7 million, on 1.57 hectares of land and funded by the federal government, was also part of the Perda corporate social responsibility (CSR) project.

The construction of the semi-detached single-storey house with built-up area of 68.98 square metres per unit will commence next month and expected to be fully completed early next year.

The main purpose of the PPSR is to provide opportunities for the hardcore poor to own a home complete with basic amenities, he told reporters after the projects launch by Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya in Kuala Sungai Pinang today.

Rosman said the housing units would only be offered on hire-purchase basis to selected participants and they would be required to pay rent for 15 years at RM100 per month.

After 15 years, we will sell the house to the participants and they only need to pay between RM3,000 and RM4,000 to own it and this project is the second to be implemented after the pilot project in Tasek Gelugor, Seberang Perai Utara, he said.
