22 January, IPOH – The state government, through the Perak Housing and Real Property Board (LPHP) and Perak State Secretary Incorporated (SSI), has agreed to collaborate with four housing developers to build 1,684 units of affordable housing under the Rumah Mesra-Milik Perakku programme.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the LPHP would be collaborating with King Ong Development Sdn Bhd, Tract Evo Sdn Bhd and Mimbar Nusantara Homes Sdn Bhd, while the SSI, with Bimbingan Simfoni Sdn Bhd.
The houses were expected to be completed within two or three years, he told reporters after witnessing the signing of the memorandum of understanding between State Secretary Zainal Azman Abu Seman and the housing developers here today.
He said the programme involved the construction of 326 units of low-cost houses, 66 units of medium-cost houses and 1,292 units of affordable houses in four selected locations, namely in Temoh Station, Chenderiang, Batang Padang (338 units); Kampung Serdang, Manjung (447 units); Tanjung Tualang, Kampar (301 units); and Tanah Hitam, Kinta (598 units).
The menteri besar added that the state government through its other agencies such as the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP) and the Menteri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc) had also planned and was in the midst of building approximately 10,000 units of affordable houses across the state, which were expected to be completed this year.
In another development, Ahmad Faizal said the state government had always been concerned about the gazettement of Orang Asli customary land in the state and it was proven by the fact that a total of 13,000 hectares of such land in the state had been gazetted so far.
However, there are still many requests from the Orang Asli community to have their land be gazetted as tanah tapak rayau (Orang Asli roaming areas) or the likes of it. So, that’s what we are doing in the state, he said.
The menteri besar said this in response to the issue concerning the Temiar Orang Asli customary land in Pos Simpor in Gua Musang, Kelantan, as the Kelantan state government appeared reluctant to recognise the customary land belonging to the Orang Asli and instead, had given permission to private companies to encroach on the lands under the pretext of earning revenue for the state.
