Kuala Lumpur – Mah Sing Foundation has contributed RM99,000 to Yayasan Generasi Gemilang (Generasi Gemilang) in support of deserving underprivileged children from a low-income community in Selayang. The initiative aims to provide better access to quality education opportunities in an effort to build a better future for these underprivileged children.
This includes the provision of academic guidance & mentorship services, learning materials, upgrade of learning spaces, school uniforms and merit-based incentives to ensure that these community youth have all that they need to stay in school and progress academically.
One example of this was Generasi Gemilang’s recent Leadership Camp where Mah Sing staff across all departments invested their time to mentor the students with values such as teamwork and leadership; concurrently encouraging them to converse in their English to build on their communication skills. Such collaboration resonated with the camp’s theme “TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More”.
“Seeing a group of young kids looking up to you and trying to show you that they are good and all eagerly doing their best to work as a team is a feeling that you have to experience it yourself. It leaves you feeling you want to do more, so as to always see their happy, beaming faces”, Lily Lee, a Mah Sing volunteer and General Manager of the Branding and Strategic Marketing Department.
Mentoring Leaders Of Tomorrow
Established in 2010, Generasi Gemilang is a foundation whose mission is to improve the lives of under-served children & families by increasing access to quality education. Their services include Pusat Bimbingan Pelajar (PBP), an academic guidance and mentorship program to help keep youth, from under-served communities in school and help them thrive within the local education system.
PBP adopts a low student-mentor ratio to give students the personal attention they need to improve in their core subjects of English and Mathematics. Beyond academics, Generasi Gemilang provides holistic growth and development through out-of-classroom exposure and experiential learning.
This initiative touches base with the Group’s new vision; ‘inventing future living that enhances quality of life’, as Mah Sing looks to provide a conducive platform for educating the rakyat’s future leaders.
“We laud the efforts that Generasi Gemilang has taken in providing for those who may feel like they have nowhere else to turn to”, said Mah Sing Foundation’s Chairman Dato’ Indera Syed Norulzaman bin Syed Kamarulzaman. He added, “These students are the future backbone of our country and therefore we are honoured to be able to be a part of this meaningful cause, together with Generasi Gemilang, in enhancing their lives.”
“Thanks to partners like Mah Sing Foundation, we are able to continue providing sustainable solutions for the community through PBP. We are grateful that they believe in our nation’s youth. They share our passion for quality education which can empower youth, especially from under-served communities, to achieve a better quality of life and ultimately, become positive contributors in society.” said Melissa Ngiam, Director of Operations, Yayasan Generasi Gemilang.
