15 March, SEREMBAN – The state government will continue to work with the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (REHDA) to address the issue of people who cannot afford to own houses.

State Urban Wellbeing, Housing, Local Government and New Villages Committee chairman Teo Kok Seong said the state government was not in competition with housing developers.

Any housing project undertaken by the state government would serve to complement the others – to help one another. That is our intention.

This is because we (the state government) want to ensure that the developers will include affordable units in their housing projects, he said, noting that the developers would also want to keep their costs low at the same time.

He was speaking to reporters at the launch of the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC) and the Malaysia Property Expo 2019 here today.

Also present were REHDA president Datuk Ir Soam Heng Choon and state REHDA chairman Jenny Wang Lee Peng.

He said the HOC would not be the only measure by the state government to create a close cooperation with housing developers; there would be more state policies drafted in the future that were friendly to housing developers.

At the same time, we will also ensure that the low- to middle- income earners will be able to own their own houses, in line with the Federal Government’s target of building one million affordable houses within the next 10 years, he said.

The HOC is jointly organised by the Finance Ministry, Ministry Of Housing and Local Government and REHDA, and the campaign runs from Jan 1-June 30, 2019 to boost home ownership among the people.

The three-day MAPEX Negeri Sembilan, which began today, features 19 developers and offers 2,238 properties worth RM1.32 billion for sale, including single and double-storey terrace houses, link houses, bungalows and shop houses.

The properties are located in Seremban, Seremban 2, Senawang, Nilai and Port Dickson.
