''MyHome'' project in Bukit Jalil due to be ready in 2018

KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 — The MyHome (Private Affordable Ownership Housing Scheme) project in Bukit Jalil which is due to be completed in 2018 will bring joy to 508 home-owners.

Buyers met today said they were grateful that their applications to own their first home had been approved by the Urban Wellbeing, Housing, and Local Government Ministry.

Civil servant Syed Ahmed Hafiz Syed Abdul Rahman, 38, was excited that his dream of owning a home had been achieved and he would no longer need to rent a house anymore.

“The scheme is very good for those who do not have their own houses, especially for people with families like me,” he said happily after the launch and balloting for the MyHome 2 Impiana Sky Residensi Bukit Jalil project today.

An executive in a private company, Nurlisa Abdullah, 37, said she did not expect her application to be approved after two years of waiting for the outcome.

“I was even happier when I came out among the top ten in the balloting, so we are free to choose the units we want,” she said.

Meanwhile, director-general of the National Housing Department, Datuk Mohamad Yusoff Ghazali said the project under the MyHome and the Federal Territory Affordable Housing Scheme would take 36 months to be completed and was now 10 per cent underway.

“This is the first MyHome project in the Federal Territory and it is being developed by Wealth Plateau Sdn Bhd with 508 units of apartments, 850 square feet in size,” he said.

He said the department had received a very encouraging response from Federal Territory residents, with more than 8,500 applications.

Mohamad Yusoff urged housing developers to build more houses in Kuala Lumpur.

He said MyHome had its advantages as the scheme offered an incentive of RM30,000 as down-payment and house-buyers need only pay RM270,000 (through a bank loan).

The scheme is also an incentive by the government to increase the supply of affordable homes to the people and was announced by the Prime Minister during the tabling of Budget 2014 on Oct 25, 2013.
