Kuala Lumpur, 5 September – Group Managing Director of Mah Sing Group (Mah Sing), Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum won International Entrepreneur Excellence Award 2016 at an award dinner organised by Malaysia China International Tradelink Association (MACITA).
The award recognises the achievements of international entrepreneurs, leaders, CSR ambassadors, and outstanding sportsmanship.
Tan Sri Leong said, “I am very honoured to receive this award. This award not only recognises my work throughout the years but also the work and effort of the hardworking team that puts the Mah Sing brand in its position today. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our passionate employees and loyal customers that has always supported us.”
The event was organised in conjunction with Malaysia-China Silkroad Economic Forum 2016 which was aimed to strengthen bilateral ties and networking between entrepreneurs from China and Malaysia, as well as improving international trade and economic collaborations between the two nations.
Presenting the award was the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, YB Tan Masir Kujat, witnessed by Deputy Minister of Higher Education, YB Datuk Mary Yap.
An Entrepreneur in Building Homes
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum was awarded International Entrepreneur Excellence Award 2016 as an industry captain who have made significant and outstanding contributions in growing Mah Sing Group into a dynamic player at the forefront of the industry.
In 1965, Mah Sing Group was incorporated as a plastic trading firm. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong founded the plastic manufacturing division in 1986 and rapidly grew the business with proprietary and OEM products for the automotive and electrical & electronic industries. Mah Sing Group was listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in 1992 as Malaysia’s No. 1 plastic manufacturer.
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong ventured into property industry in 1994 with the Group’s maiden property project in Ulu Yam, Selangor. To date, Mah Sing has 46 projects spread throughout Malaysia’s property hotspots, namely the Klang Valley and Greater Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru (Iskandar Malaysia), Penang island and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
As at 30 June 2016, the Group cash and bank balances amounted to approximately RM895.3million and low net gearing ratio at 0.06 times. The Group’s RM31.7billion remaining gross development value (GDV) and unbilled sales is expected to support 8 to 9 years of revenue growth.
Mah Sing is positioned to support the Nation’s initiatives in building more acquirable homes with 89% of the Group’s planned residential launches in 2016 will be priced below RM1million, with 68% priced below RM700,000 and 50% priced below RM500,000.
Tan Sri Leong was also named Entrepreneur of the Year at the ASEAN Business Awards Malaysia 2016, Asian Corporate Director of the Year 2015 by Corporate Governance Asia, Brandpreneur Life Inspired Achievement Award at The Brandlaureate Special Edition World Award 2015 and Best CEO (Investor Relations) at the 5th Asian Excellence Award 2015.
