Mah Sing Throws Break Fast Open House For Unsung Heroes

SOUTHVILLE CITY, BANGI, 2017 – To celebrate the holy month of Ramadan, Mah Sing Group (Mah Sing) showed their appreciation to some 600 Muslim construction workers by throwing an Iftar or break fast open house at Savanna Executive Suites (Savanna) in Southville City.

Often the unsung heroes, the 600 construction workers are part of the construction team involved in the development of Savanna which will be handing over Vacant Possession (VP) from September 2017 onwards.

Present at the Savanna break fast open house was Group Managing Director of Mah Sing, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum, Chief Executive Officer of Mah Sing, Datuk Ho Hon Sang, Director of Group Strategy and Operations, Lionel Leong, as well as 40 employees from the Mah Sing team who all banded together to give out meal boxes to the construction workers.

Enhancing The Lives of Unsung Heroes Who Deserve Recognition

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum shared that construction workers play an important role for every one of the Group’s projects. “They are often the unsung heroes in the industry. There are times they brave the scorching heat and poor weather to ensure that the project is completed on time. During the course of Savanna’s development, we recorded more than 6.3 million safe man hours to date, another notable achievement. Even with construction technology becoming more prominent with systems such as Industrial Building System (IBS), our construction team still work tirelessly to ensure our developments meet the high standards we have set for quality and finishing.

This initiative by Mah Sing is in line with the Group’s tagline to ‘Reinvent Spaces. Enhance Life’. “We want to be a meaningful corporation and ensure that in everything we do, we want to firstly, enhance life. As such, we wanted to show our appreciation to the construction workers who are fasting during the month of Ramadan. Some of these workers do not have the luxury to break fast with their families as many of them are from Indonesia, Bangladesh and Myanmar and they come to Malaysia to earn a living for their families back home. This simple gesture of thanking them and breaking fast together is a moment which will make this Ramadan a little more special for them,” commented Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum.

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum also gave a total of RM30,000 or RM50 to each construction worker as duit raya. He said “This is a small token from us to our workers which can bring a bit more joy to their Hari Raya festivities.”

The event was full of energy as the construction workers began making their way to the podium floor of Savanna at 6.00pm. With cheerful music enveloping the podium floor, the construction workers queued up to collect their meal boxes and drinks which was given out by the Mah Sing team.

After a short speech by Datuk Ho Hon Sang thanking the construction workers for their tireless work in developing Savanna, everyone broke fast together at the stroke of Iftar. The event continued on with fun games and activities organised by the Mah Sing team. There was singing, dancing and prizes were given out to the construction workers who took part in the games and activities.

The meal boxes which were given out to the workers were prepared by the Picha Project, a social enterprise which aims to empower marginalised communities in Malaysia through a sustainable food catering and delivery business. The Picha Project provides job opportunities to families from marginalised groups by creating a platform for them to cater food to the public, utilizing their existing cooking skills and equipping them further with professional guidance.
