Mah Sing on the double at prestigious human resource excellence awards 2017

5 October 2017, Kuala Lumpur – Mah Sing Group Berhad (Mah Sing) took home two awards; Excellence in Workplace Wellbeing (Silver) and Excellence in CSR Strategy (Silver) at the Human Resources Excellence Awards 2017 that was held in Aloft Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Being the only property developer to emerge with accolades marks a big step in recognising the success of Mah Sing’s ongoing transformation programme and testament to its tagline ‘Reinventing Spaces. Enhance Life.”

The HR Excellence Awards 2017 is judged by panel judges, who are experienced practitioners in the Human Resource industry. Among the panel of judges include Mah Sing’s Head of People, Chen Fong Tuan.

The Group believes that Human Capital is the company’s greatest asset that will lead Mah Sing to success. Hence, we will continue to develop and retain its people through successful and effective human resource strategies that are closely aligned to its business strategies.

Mah Sing’s Group Managing Director, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum said, “The awards we want to incorporate healthy work-life integration, as Mah Sing believes in creating an atmosphere where employees are genuinely happy in what they do”.

Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum added, “The Group also understands the power of giving back to the society. Our Mah Sing Foundation has, to date, made contributions amounting more than RM11million to the social and economic development of the community. We even had volunteers from all levels of management volunteering in some of our humanitarian efforts I am delighted to say that the people in Mah Sing are united in one goal – ‘Reinvent Spaces. Enhance Life.’”

Mah Sing’s Head of People, Chen Fong Tuan commented, “We are very honoured to be the only property developer to receive accolades tonight. These wins are the fruits from the team’s hard work and perseverance, testament to how far we have come since the start of our transformation. We will not rest on our laurels as Mah Sing promises to continue improving the workplace environment for our people.”

Work Life Integration
Mah Sing believes that with an active learning and development department conducting training, employees from all levels, will be able to further develop their technical and soft skills to achieve optimal potentials, resulting in continuous success of the company.

To ensure employee growth is simultaneous with the company’s, Mah Sing’s People department have planned out a series of interactive sharing sessions called ‘Take Time With’, where experienced leaders from different industries will be invited to share their successful stories to educate and inspire employees.

Staying true to achieving healthy work-life integration, Mah Sing also invests in the physical wellbeing of its employees as well. M Life, the outdoor organising committee of the Group works towards promoting work-life integration whereby weekly activities are arranged to promote social interaction and foster team spirit. In 2017, M Life has planned out a series of activities such as hiking Gunung Irau, a trampoline dodgeball competition, a paintball competition, a bowling tournament and weekly activities such as high intensity interval training, social dance classes as well as weekly futsal and badminton sessions.

The Group understand the importance of the employee well-being in the company and we believe a pleasant environment will motivate the employees to produce good results. In 2017, Mah Sing underwent a massive makeover to MS@Work (formerly known as Wisma Mah Sing) with the objective to transform it to a modern and vibrant workplace. To enhance people’s life, the Group has improved the facilities in the building to provide a better environment and promote a healthier lifestyle for employees. New facilities include a full equipped gym room, lactation room for nursing mothers, a nap room for those who need a break, karaoke room to destress, ping pong room and pool table.

Corporate Social Responsibility
In line with the Group’s transformation, Mah Sing has since placed emphasis in giving back to society. “Now, in everything we do, we want to first enhance life”, said Chief Executive Officer of Mah Sing Group,  Datuk Ho Hon Sang.

Mah Sing adopted a personal approach in handling their CSR efforts as employees from all levels of management set aside their busy schedules to play their part in giving back. Just recently, 50 volunteers went to lend a helping hand in planting an urban garden that will help in beautifying the living environment for a Rohingya-based society. The urban garden’s aim is to provide sustenance for the refugees, producing fresh produce that can be harvested and sold to generate a small scale income for the refugees’ families.

It is a value that permeates through the ranks, as employees willingly volunteer to participate in internal environmental activities such as Dress for a Cause, Project Pokok, Green Bay Bazaar and Go Green Week to raise environmental awareness among the employees.
