Lyanna Tew said, “Our contribution to the two organisations is part of our corporate social responsibility effort through our Foundation. Mah Sing Foundation believes in investing for a better tomorrow, which we can achieve if we work together to assist those in need by supporting purposeful organisation and causes such as PDM and MASIA.  With our partner KLK, we hope that our contribution will continue to assist the good work of both the organisations.”

“We hope our humble contribution will help enhance the equipment and facilities available at both PDM and MASIA for the use of their students and members as well as lighten the burden of their families. With our motto, “Values Matter, Society Matters”, we at KLK believe that it is our responsibility to give back to the community where possible, and this is what KLK has taken on to inculcate from the early days.” said Paul Fung.

Malaysian Spinal Injuries Association (MASIA) is an organisation of the injured spinal individuals. They assist spinal cord injured individuals and their families in promoting their integration and full participation in society, encouraging the paralysed individual to live a quality life and realise their own goals. MASIA’s Treasurer, Mr Wong Siew Ming said, “Our association helps about 400 Malaysians who are suffering from spinal cord injury with special medical equipment which are normally not available at the normal pharmacies. Our members are mostly unemployed, and many are unable to work due to injuries, thus making the purchases of these equipment a heavy burden to them.  We depend largely on charitable contributions from the public and hope more will help us in supporting this cause.” Mr Wong had a spinal cord injury since 20 years ago and had been actively advocating the cause with other individuals who have spinal cord injuries and their family and friends.

The Dyslexia Association of Malaysia (PDM) is an association that champions the education and welfare of dyslexic children and adults. Headquartered in Jalan Ampang, PDM has 16 centres across Malaysia that provide various seminars, counselling and special classes for those with Dyslexia. PDM’s President, Pn. Sariah Amirin said, “Children with Dyslexia are often silent victims of neglect and injustice.  They are actually very artistic and intelligent, but they are just not able to discern alphabets and sometimes numbers.  With proper diagnostic, especially at an early age, they can assimilate back into the school system.” Pn. Sariah has dedicated her retiring years to champion the welfare and awareness of Dyslexia.

Both organisations rely on the support and donation from the public.  Through the Tun Siti Hasmah Charity Gala, it aims to aid the organisations to raise awareness about their causes and to obtain more support from the public for its on-going initiatives.  For more information, please visit PDM’s website at www.dyslexiamalaysia.org and contact MASIA at 03-9080 3198.
