1 October, PETALING JAYA – The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS), through its Skuad Jejak Kemiskinan (Poverty Detection Squad) programme, has tracked 100 families at Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Lembah Subang to identify those who can be categorised and registered as asnaf (the needy).
LZS Petaling District distribution operations head, Mohd Nur Fadhli Yohman, said the routine operation is conducted to ensure that individuals or families in need will receive timely aid.
The programme is effective as we can reach out to those who are eligible but haven’t been assisted by LZS due to factors such as the lack of knowledge on zakat (tithe) application process, he said during the Skuad Jejak Kemiskinan programme recently.
The checks were conducted from house to house to determine the need of each recipient based on their poverty line and circumstances, such as chronic illnesses, as well as number of dependents.
The census at PPR Lembah Subang found that 75 households qualify as being poor and in need.
For Atikah Aini Mohd Yamin, 43, the visit by LZS to her home will lighten the financial burden she suffered since her husband’s demise four years ago.
As a single mother of four children who earns RM700 by working part time as a cleaner, Atikah is happy and thankful upon being announced as one of the qualified zakat recipients.
Aids channeled to eligible persons include, financial assistance, school fees and supplies, food, and Ramadan and Hari Raya assistance.
