November 14, PETALING JAYA – There is a saying by Brazilian football legend Pelé, ‘Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing’. The saying aptly describes LBS Bina Group Berhad (LBS) Group Managing Director, Tan Sri Lim Hock San, and his journey in driving the property, business and social spheres. His contributions culminated in the prestigious Special Distinguished Award for Promotion of China-ASEAN Relations at the 9th World Chinese Economic Summit (WCES), presented by the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI).
“It is a great honour to receive this award. Thank you, ASLI. LBS has come so far over the past 25 years. Our success is the result of hard work by each and every person under the LBS banner. Being at the helm of LBS through the years, I have learnt to adapt and evolve quickly, to be decisive and act with integrity. These values continue to guide me in everything I pursue,” said Tan Sri Lim.
This marked the second recognition Tan Sri Lim Hock San received for his involvement and initiative in bridging relationships between Malaysia and China. In 2015, Tan Sri Lim was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award for Enhancing Relations with China during the 7th World Chinese Economic Summit.
Leading LBS from a simple transportation business, Tan Sri Lim expanded the Group’s reach into property development with award-winning projects located in the Klang Valley, Johor, and Pahang. Tan Sri’s foresight into the needs of the local property market has driven LBS’ growth as a successful township developer. A testament to this is the success of its flagship BSP township, which is currently home to a vibrant community and bustling with economic activities. Set to continue its legacy of developing well-received self-contained townships, the Group intends to emulate its success with LBS Alam Perdana in Ijok under the Kuala Selangor District, North West of Klang Valley and LBS Cybersouth in Dengkil.
LBS is also a strong supporter of the nation’s aspiration to increase home ownership. It remains at the forefront of affordable home projects under the Rumah SelangorKu and Perumahan Penjawat Awam 1 Malaysia (PPA1M) programmes.
Possessing a strong sense of community, Tan Sri Lim is also President of the Federation of Malaysia Lim Associations. Tan Sri Lim is constantly in touch with current happenings and actively contributes to the development of the business fraternity and societies in need, including the elderly and children from marginalised communities.
On a global level, Tan Sri Lim is also President of the Malaysia-Guangdong Chamber of Investment Promotion (MGCIP) responsible for promoting the development of economic and trade relationship between Malaysia and China. In recognition of Tan Sri Lim’s active contributions in nurturing ties with China over the years, he was selected as the sole representative from Malaysia, among the 38 non- voting Chinese delegates from 30 countries around the world, to attend the Lianghui Annual Meeting in Beijing, China held in March earlier this year.
Other bilateral dealings include the management of the Zhuhai International Circuit (ZIC), an FIA (International Motor Sports Federation) approved circuit located in Zhuhai, China. More recently, Tan Sri Lim initiated the Zhuhai International Circuit (ZIC) Upgrading and Transformation Plan that outlines the upgrade and transformation plan of multiple zones in ZIC, beginning with the launch of the Melaka Cultural and Trade Centre. The transformation is set to tap into the potential of the tourism industry between China and Malaysia.
An active business leader, Tan Sri Lim firmly believes in setting clear goals, recognising fresh ideas and grooming future talent. This year, he was also awarded the Outstanding Leader In Asia at the recent Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability Awards (ACES) in Singapore. The award recognised his sound leadership and success in applying it to spearhead the company’s growth and prominence.
The World Chinese Economic Summit (WCES) is a premier international event created by the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI). Its aim is to enhance connectivity and business linkages between China and Southeast Asia, and China and Europe, in line with the Chinese leadership’s Belt and Road initiatives.
The prestigious annual event brought together policy-makers, entrepreneurs, researchers and thought-leaders from around the world to discuss topics around the key theme, ‘Managing Global Uncertainty: Exploring New Opportunities’.
WCES is an internationally recognised high-level platform for business, trade facilitation and investment to build new partnerships. Over the past eight years, the WCES has been held in Malaysia, China, Australia and United Kingdom.
