Township developer attributes success to holistic approach in social outreach encompassing community, education, environment and health aspects

20 July, PETALING JAYA – Many hands make light work. In celebration of the multiple helping hands involved in corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, the 2018 CSR Malaysia Awards was held recently to appreciate and share exemplary outreach efforts by organisations in Malaysia, both big and small. Among those awarded included township developer, LBS Bina Group Berhad (LBS) that was awarded ‘Company of The Year’ for the second time in the listed property developer category.

Expressed the source of his passion for community outreach, LBS Group Managing Director, Tan Sri Lim Hock San, said, “We are very humbled by this recognition. Giving back to the community has always been an important part of our culture at LBS. This is why we formed the LBS Foundation. It is a special platform that helps us focus our efforts guided by four main pillars, namely, education, health, community and the environment. As a home-grown organisation, we are happy to play our part in helping to boost the social-economic status of those in need.”

Over the years, LBS have been actively participating in CSR activities that consistent with the LBS Foundation pillars. LBS has been known as a long term supporter for few organisation and programs such as Kiwanis Club of Kuala Lumpur (KCKL) in their annual Kiwanis Motor Treasure Hunt, local schools i.e., Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Sg Way for over 40 years and Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Katholik Petaling Jaya over the past 12 years, and The Star’s Step Up programme and Newspaper-in-Education (NiE) for 7 years.

“Sustainable corporate social responsibility is about continuous efforts to support communities in need and boost the growth of Malaysia’s social-economy. As we continue to grow, we want the community around us to grow together as well. We are look forward to growing our social outreach initiatives through the LBS Foundation platform,” concluded Tan Sri Lim.

The CSR Malaysia Award recipients are evaluated based a list of criteria including communication of a clear purpose and goal for a company’s CSR efforts, the impact and significance of the CSR initiative, frequency, and total contributed. Other requirements include transparency in reporting CSR initiatives, creative implementation strategies, the strength of the CSR team and sincerity as well as effectiveness of each initiative.

The CSR Malaysia 2018, in its third edition, honours outstanding corporations that have excelled in the socio-economic transformation of Malaysia. A total of 35 corporations representing a wide spectrum of industries in Malaysia were recognised for their corporate social responsibility efforts at the 2018 CSR Malaysia Awards. CSR Malaysia Awards 2018 was organized by CSR Malaysia Publications, a free publication that shares the unwavering commitment of corporations in Malaysia with a vision and mission to create awareness on the growing need to lend a helping hand to make the world a better place for all. The event, which was attended by some 450 corporate personalities and foreign dignitaries, was supported by Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. The event was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Women, Family and Community Development of Malaysia, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Sri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. Also present at the event was the CSR Malaysia’s Chairman, Dato’ R. Rajendran, and its Co-Chairman and Managing Editor, Lee Seng Chee.
