LANGKAWI, Dec 14 — The Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) has joined the ranks of global organisations such as Microsoft and Apple Inc after being selected as the winner of the World Confederation of Businesses’ (WORLDCOB) The Bizz 2016 Business Excellence Award.
LADA Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri Khalid Ramli, said the Houston-based business development organisation, in an e-mail to LADA recently, said the decision was made based on the high score achieved by the authority under the WORLDCOB’s business excellence evaluation.
Khalid said the areas reviewed were business leadership, quality in products and services, systems management, innovation, creativity, corporate social responsibility and achievements.
“This (winning the award) is very big. Even Apple and Microsoft were once awarded by the WORLDCOB,” he told a media briefing here today.
He said LADA had been invited to receive the award in a ceremony to be held in Monte Carlo, Monaco on May 15 next year.
Khalid said winning this award came as a significant milestone for LADA which had been winning a number of recognitions before.
“In this case, we didn’t submit any nomination. It came as a surprise for us … they (WORLDCOB) did their own research (to evaluate LADA’s performance),” he said.
He said winning the award reflected the importance of promoting the role of LADA on a global platform in marketing Langkawi to the world.
Prior to this latest achievement, LADA had also spearheaded the efforts to enable Langkawi to maintain its status as a United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation Global Geopark for another four years until 2019.
