22 October 2017, Johor Bahru – Dynasty View Sdn Bhd (also known as UMLand Seri Austin), a wholly owned subsidiary of United Malayan Land Bhd (UMLand) and Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), collaborated to organise a healthy-oriented activity aptly titled, ”10,000 Steps @ Seri Austin” at Taman Seri Austin, Johor Bahru. The ”10,000 Steps @ Seri Austin” programme was held in support of the recent Hari Sukan Negara 2017 which was celebrated nationwide. It was also the first collaboration between UMLand Seri Austin and TM in organising such programmes to encourage members of the local communities, including employees from both companies, to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The programme was officiated by En Abdul Ghani Abdul Rahman, Director Of Johor Youth & Sports Division as an official representative to Johor State Exco for Youth, Sports, Cultural and Heritage, together with KK Wong, Chief Executive Officer and Acting Group Director of UMLand Townships, and Ahmad Nasri Mohamed, State Vice President, TM Johor.
Speaking at the event, Ahmad Nasri said, “We are excited to collaborate with UMLand Seri Austin on this initiative towards promoting a healthy lifestyle and environment conservation. It is indeed encouraging to see a good number of participants for this programme and we hope that our objective of increasing public awareness on healthy and green initiatives is successfully met.”
“One of the best ways to start a healthy lifestyle is through regular exercise, which is definitely more fun to do in a group like what we did today. Family and friends are the ones who influence our choice of activities. To be a part of a group exercise such as this provides us an opportunity to stay physically active in a fun and sociable environment with others,” he added.
Meanwhile, KK Wong said,” Not many people are active in sports, hence walking is perhaps one of the easiest ways to start exercising. I am glad that we have collaborated with TM to bring this event to the people of Seri Austin.”
He added,”We are also proud to introduce Poesy Liang, a design entrepreneur, multidisciplinary designer, humanitarian and motivational speaker. Besides many of her volunteer causes that seek to serve the marginalised, Poesy also takes climate change and green matters seriously as she sees the importance of preserving Mother Nature. At Seri Austin, she introduces her signature – Rooftop Cats (RTC), Harry Putter on a zero carbon flying broom. Through her artworks, Poesy employs a whimsical approach to encourage people to strive to be more energy efficient – in line with Seri Austin as the First Smart Healthy City and Communities in Iskandar Malaysia. Those efforts are part of UMLand’s strong advocacy on providing sustainable and green living.”
Meanwhile, Abdul Ghani said, “I would like to congratulate TM and UMLand Seri Austin for their efforts in organising this event for the communities to get together and cultivate a healthier lifestyle.”
”Since 2015, the Government has declared Hari Sukan Negara on the second Saturday of October every year. The objective is to elevate Malaysia into a healthier and active nation. In conjunction with the Hari Sukan Negara, we are encouraging people of all ages to be involved in various sports activities, lead a healthy lifestyle, and to create awareness among the younger generations on the importance of healthy living. ”
“I am really impressed by the development that has taken place in Seri Austin and the efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle among the communities should be followed and emulated by others.” He added and admitting this was the first time to set foot in Seri Austin.
At the event, almost 800 participants walked 10,000 steps around Seri Austin township which is equivalent to 8 kilometres, in the process burning almost 504 calories. The participants, along with the guests also threw Effective Microorganism (EM) mudballs into the Seri Austin Lake as an effort to improve the water quality and conserve the lake as a natural habitat leading to a greener township.
At the event there were more than 10 booths showcasing healthy products, and health consultations were offered including blood pressure test, sleeping test and mental health status test by Afiat Healthcare Sdn. Bhd.. Dr Azlee Ahmad from Afiat Healthcare Sdn Bhd also delivered a talk titled ”Secrets of Staying Healthy.” In addition, there were meals on wheels for the public to enjoy with a range of food trucks selling tasty treats.
