PASIR GUDANG, 2 May: Johor will have a Robotic Future City by the end of this year.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that the state needs 1,000 high-tech skilled workers for the new industry but questions if schools are prepared for it.
He said, a robotics factory may be set up in Sedenak, and its R&D centre, sales marketing will be set up in Iskandar Malaysia area.
“We are still negotiating, if it goes smoothly, the project may kick off by the end of this year,” said Khaled after officiating the 32nd meeting of Parents Teachers association of SMK Pasir Gudang 1, here.
Johor Corporation (JCorp) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) were reportedly entered an agreement with Chinese robotics manufacturer, Beijing Huize Boyuan Robot Investment Company Limited for the robotic project on April 14, this year in Shanghai.
During the officiating ceremony, Khaled expressed his worry for too many students going for academic courses.
“They may end up jobless when they graduate,” said Khaled.
Currently, about 70% of students choose academic courses.
“It is more balanced if 40% of our students choose skilled career studies,” Khaled added.
