IOI Obstacle Run 2016 - Experiencing the outdoors

PUCHONG, 6 December: IOI Properties Group Berhad (“IOIPG”) had its inaugural IOI Obstacle Run 2016 on 4 December 2016 at Bandar Puteri Puchong. The event attracted about 700 participants who attempted 10 obstacles throughout a 5km trail near IOI Galleria @ Puchong. The trail consisted of 10 different obstacles. There were six categories available for different age groups ranging from age 15 to 45 years and above.

Ten winners of each category walked away with cash prizes and trophies at the end of the run. The event was in line with IOIPG’s efforts in advocating healthy lifestyle via sports and outdoor activities. Besides fostering bonding with family and friends, it is aimed at encouraging appreciation of the outdoors. An obstacle run offers participants exciting challenges of different levels and this helps boost confidence in youths as they prepare for adulthood.

It is unlike a normal running activity as it requires climbing, crawling, jumping movements etc in overcoming the obstacles which is mentally and physically challenging. This makes it a perfect activity for people from all walks of life in achieving both physical and mental wellness. Being a township developer who focuses on sustainable development, the obstacle course was constructed with used or recycled materials such as tyres, drain pipes, woods amongst others; whereby participants enjoyed a whole new challenging experience.

There were also food trucks selling food and drinks within the event vicinity to add a carnival-like atmosphere to the event. IOIPG sponsored 20 teenagers from two homes located in Puchong namely House of Joy and Rumah Shalom to participate in this event. “We wish to offer them the opportunity to enjoy the outdoor fun and experience this unique run.

Apart from that, it serves to boost their confidence level which helps to prepare them for future challenges ahead. Some of them were elated as they won the top 3 prizes in the Family Fun category,” said Kristine Ng, IOIPG General Manager of Corporate Communication and Sustainability
