IJM Land unveils winner of iLDA 2016

Kuala Lumpur, 2 June – IJM LAND’s inaugural contest for young and aspiring interior designers iLDA 2016 concluded this week in Bandar Rimbayu bringing forth its Gold Winner, Leo Wong Kwan Theng and Silver winner, Goh Sow Yee. For the last two months both contestants fully furnished a Penduline showroom in the township under the theme of “Reliving Nostalgic Memories”.

Emcee Julie Woon welcomed the guests at the award ceremony in Bandar Rimbayu and gave them an overview about the journey of the contestants. A 6-person jury evaluated more than 100 submitted interior designs to determine who would get to compete in the second round. The shortlisted participants for the second round took part in a workshop with the collaborating sponsors Signature Kitchen Sdn Bhd, Urban Culture by Fella Group, Philips Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Jotun Paints (M) Sdn Bhd and Inovar Resources Sdn Bhd to learn more about their products. Together the sponsors provided an allocated budget of RM150,000 for each of the contestants to use for the interior design of the showrooms.

The Managing Director of IJM LAND, Mr. Edward Chong Sin Kiat, took the stage to talk more about the idea behind the award and the contestants’ performance: “By organising this competition we wanted to give young aspiring interior designers the possibility to put what they have learned at the university and their workplace to practical use and help them become better and more experienced in their business. When I see how far our two finalists have come from their first submitted design to now having realised their own personal Penduline showroom, I can rightly say that we have more than just reached our goal”.

Penduline is the name of the latest development in Bandar Rimbayu’s Fauna precinct. The 625 well-planned double-storey link homes range from a gross built-up area of 1,771 sqft – 2,283 sqft and offer a variety of layouts. Each of the Penduline houses is built on land area of 20’x70’ with an indicative selling price starting from as low as RM 689,800. Penduline’s first and 2nd phase which are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2018 are already 90% sold but for all those interested there is also 3rd phase consisting of 244 units which is opened for sale right now.

After a short video recapping the journey of the contestants in last 9 months, the jury members and sponsors’ representatives were thanked for their support of the award and presented a small token of appreciation before the audience feasted their eyes on the screen to see a Penduline makeover clip highlighting the transformation of the showrooms.

The moment of the day had arrived and the Managing Director of IJM LAND unveiled the Winner of the iLDA 2016. Amidst much applause Leo Wong Kwan Theng was invited on stage to accept his price as Gold Winner, a cheque worth RM18,000 and a Mac Book Pro. Goh Sow Yee was awarded with a cheque worth RM12,000 and an iPhone 6s plus for being the iLDA 2016 Silver Winner. Joining the celebrations on stage was the COO of Bandar Rimbayu Mr. Shuy Eng Leong.

A high tea menu and a variety of canapés were served to accompany the event and left everyone happy and satisfied. The winner of the iLDA 2016 was determined by the jury (70%) and public  (30%) who was invited to vote for their favourite interior design during the Happy Family Day in Bandar Rimbayu on May 28th and 29th.
