5 June, KOTA KEMUNING – As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds, the Malaysian government has implemented a series of guidelines and policies to prevent a spread of the virus. As part of the Ministry of Work’s procedure to ensure that all developers are keeping up with the Construction Industry Development Board’s (CIDB) new standard operating procedures (SOPs), Gamuda Land’s integrated township twentyfive.7 has recently been selected for a construction site inspection by the Ministry of Works.

Present at the inspection included Minister of Works YB Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof; Secretary General of Ministry of Works, Dato’ Dr. Syed Omar Sharifuddin b. Syed Ikhsan; Chief Executive of CIDB, Dato’ Ir. Ahmad ‘Asri Abdul Hamid; Gamuda Berhad’s Group Executive Director, Dato’ Haji Azmi bin Mat Nor; Gamuda Engineering’s Managing Director, Dato’ Ubull Din Om and Gamuda Land’s Executive Director Dato’ Hj Abdul Sahak bin Safi where temperature screening, sanitisation and social distancing practices were strictly complied to throughout the event.

Harnessing construction technology

“One of our long-espoused brand values is driving innovation, which gave us the foresight to cope with the new norms. Since 2017, we have automated our construction with Gamuda IBS so we are able to effectively manage our employees’ safety during this challenging time. Instead of foreign workers on site, Gamuda’s digital IBS allows for a built environment off-site with automation, effectively reducing reliance on foreign workers by 70%. This reduces the risk to our people’s safety as work is generally confined within our IBS plant with proper social distancing, hygiene and tracking processes,” said Dato’ Sahak, who also thanked the Minister of Works for selecting Gamuda Land’s development to be showcased as one of the developments with COVID-19 SOPs best practices.

The Amber Residence, a 596-unit serviced apartments in twentyfive.7 is developed with Gamuda’s IBS technology with an IBS score of 81%.

Proactive innovation

During the inspection, the minister lauded Gamuda Land for stepping up its precautionary workplace actions, exceeding CIDB’s imposed benchmark. Part of the developer’s proactive
measures include the curation of a mobile app with unique QR code to track site workers’ movement digitally and installation of the VirusBuster NanoSpray machine at all construction site’s entrance using key ingredient from Ministry of Health’s approved list of disinfecting ingredients against COVID-19.
