26 November, SEPANG – All rest and relaxation (R&R) areas along the North-South Expressway will be equipped with free WiFi facility by 2022.
PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) managing director, Datuk Azman Ismail said the first R&R area expected to have free WiFi would be the Seremban R&R (southbound) by early 2020.
Currently, the tender process is going on and the provision of free WiFi facility is in line with upgrading of the PLUS R&R areas, he told reporters after the official opening of the Bandar Serenia elevated interchange, by Works Minister Baru Bian, here, today.
Azman said there were now 24 R&R areas along both sides of the PLUS expressway.
Baru, in his speech, said highway concessionaires must take serious action in the area of maintenance.
“The goal of making Malaysian highways world-class should encompass all elements of management, engineering and maintenance.
Maintenance work should not be limited to road surfacing, but to include other assets like hill slopes, drainage system, mechanical and electrical aspects, buildings, landscaping, safety equipment, signboards and highway lighting, he said.
Baru added that increased use of Industrial Revolution 4.0 elements was also needed as highway congestion without knowing the source was unacceptable.
