20 January, KOTA BHARU – The Federal Government through the Housing and Local Government Ministry will work with the Kelantan Government to manage the solid waste disposal system as well as methods to build affordable housing projects in the state.
Its minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said that she wanted the state government to give the best ideas and then formally list them to meet both objectives .
“The issue of waste disposal is among the problems that need to be addressed in Kelantan by implementing the best methods through cooperation, including the issue of affordable housing development.
“For the issue of affordable housing, we ask the state government to list the land that the ministry needs to develop and this is a necessity,” she told reporters after meeting with state executive councillors and the presidents of the 12 local authorities at JKR 10 here, today.
Zuraida had earlier held a meeting with Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob at the same venue.
Zuraida said the local authority heads welcomed the installation of LED street lights in the state which she said was safe and bright.
On the issue of abandoned houses in the state, Zuraida said there were 12 abandoned housing projects across the state, all constructed by the private sector.
She said the ministry would help “save” the projects, some of which had been abandoned for over 30 years.
Ahmad, later said that the state government would propose to the ministry to use land in Pasir Mas and Tumpat for affordable housing projects.
