
28 January 2019, PENANG – For the 13th consecutive year, lifestyle property developer Eastern &
Oriental Berhad (E&O) has contributed RM200,000 for the Penang state government’s annual
Chinese New Year do.
The grand celebration, popularly known as ‘Miao Hui’ (temple festival in Chinese), is a joint
collaboration of the Penang state government and Penang Chinese Clan Council. Themed ‘A Journey of Gratitude’ this year, an interesting line-up of performances, exhibitions and workshops portraying the age-old local heritage and arts will be taking place at the George Town World Heritage Site on Feb 9 (the 5th day of Lunar New Year), from 4pm to 11pm.
Several locations within the heritage enclave including King Street, Penang Street, Bishop Street,
Church Street, Cannon Street, Armenian Street and Ah Quee Street will also be illuminated with
red lanterns.
During the mock cheque presentation ceremony officiated by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow
today, E&O group corporate strategy director Lyn Chai said the Group was honoured to continue
its long-standing commitment in supporting the yearly community festival.
“E&O is honoured to continue playing a role in celebrating the rich culture and heritage of George
Town.
“As custodian of the heritage landmark E&O Hotel, to the development of the Seri Tanjung Pinang
seafront community as well as looking ahead to Seri Tanjung Pinang Phase 2, E&O is extremely
proud to be deeply connected with the past, present and future of Penang,” she said.
Also present to witness the cheque presentation was the Chief Minister’s political secretary and
Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng.
